Over three times the previous two combined. But how hard did the canes do it? 🤮
-
@taniwharugby neither, he’s way too reckless and sloppy on attack.
-
On the injury front Aumua and PUJ might not make the trip to Canberra but we should get Love back.

I'm watching a bit delayed but jeez that did not look good for Barrett.
He was in a very poor position to attempt a cleanout, and in fact had already lost the contact zone. No attempt to keep his feet. Contact to the head. How that wasn't at least a yellow, based on recent events... Jeez.
Did Ken Laban do any warm-up work on them opposition? Only seems to know about half the force players.
The head contact was minimal, and when the head is in that position how are you meant to avoid it, to suggest Kopeka had "won the contact zone" is absurd. Barrett was being penalised more for the force of the clean out than anything else.
In saying that I would have liked to have seen the high tackle that knocked out Aumua again, he was in la la land after that. No replays? Ref knew it wouldn't have been pretty.

Fuck Blackwell has tits for hands.
It’s hard for a lock to catch those low balls.
Shouldn’t be for someone like him

The head contact was minimal,
Direct contact - upper arm and shoulder - to the head/neck region. It was the first point of contact as well.
when the head is in that position how are you meant to avoid it,
Accept that you've lost the race to the ball and adjust your approach.
to suggest Kopeka had "won the contact zone" is absurd.
Koteka was in a dominant position over the ball and had won the "shoulder battle". Jordie's only option at that point was to try to roll him off it, but he was going in too low and therefore he was putting himself in a bad position to execute anything but the potential for foul play.
Here's McCaw explaining "shoulder battle" - I use this explanation whenever I'm bringing new players (esp. leaguies) through at training.
Barrett wasn't being malicious - I acknowledge he was trying to wrap based on his left arm going to Koteka's knee. But it was reckless and head contact. He got a significant amount of leeway on that decision when you compare it to recent calls around head contact.

IMHO off one viewing it was worthy of a yellow, perhaps mitigated by Aumua lowering his body position - worth noting Timani was getting fairly low as well. There was chest on shoulder but the arm was out and in a swinging action.
I was also surprised they didn't replay it while the lineout was forming. They had a shot of Barrett running back into position instead.
