Dave's big problem is that Aussie sports / rugby fans will never get behind a team that plays "pragmatic" rugby. They love a winner that plays hard and pushes boundaries, but they really hate dour, defence-first, conservative teams. It's probably part of the national psyche that their sports teams, and people, are meant to have a crack.

Yeah, I don't disagree but even the AB's have been known when to play dour risk free rugby when conditions (wet/windy/greasy), opposition (a crack French pack) or situation ("must win") requires.

Admittedly less so since St. Richie stopped playing in 2015, witness the second half of the RWC final vs France in 2011. But I'd argue that's been part of the AB problems recently ... either tactical inflexibility or lack of ability to switch into this mode.

Very strong Wallabies team. Definitely favorates with Cooper back in 10.

Hope Bok rush defense is on it.

    Seriously ? No way.

Totally not serious. He's just desperate for that under dog card. World champion, world number one, lion taming boks are the favourite in every match they play for a while yet

Would it be fair to say that the Boks have a bit of an “aura” about them…? @booboo

Oom, one of the intriguing aspects of the 100th match is that we haven’t played the boks for 2 years (September 21 was the date of our our last match) not even the super franchises.

So there is some mystique attached to the boks, a bit like there was in the apartheid era.

Both sides are eager to renew rivalries on the pitch and friendships off it. Winning the 100th will be special.

From a NZ point of view, we feel we are rebuilding a side while the boks have one of their best side in the pro era.

It will be fascinating and let’s hope the match was worth the 2 year wait!

I honestly didn't even know Quade was still playing rugby. This feels like one of those old stories where some dude was plucked out of reserve grade to start a test on Saturday.

I know you peaked as a coach in 2012 Dave but you can't just keep pretending we're still there.

    Quade Cooper. Fuck me dead.

If the Boks drop this I will laugh for an hour.

Aura and Mystique back together again, but hanging with the wrong crowd.

Is To'omua injured? I would have thought he could play a similar role to Cooper in this test, and with some recent form on his side.

    @bovidae there's a reasonable chance Toomua won't be seen again, i reckon.

He doesn't have any recent form. Fifteen minutes ripping into Bled 1 doesn't offset the rubbish Super season he had playing a rubbish game plan at the Rabble.

Decidedly awkward interview but I thought Quade spoke very well (as an aside, his voice-sounds like SBW).

@pakman yes. And I think the NZ fanboi reactions and cheapshots (from me too) obscure from his decided entertainment value as a 10. Might still be a defensive liability but has some great skills. Hope he plays well, have not followed his recent games overseas...

Frankly I thought Quade wasn't as bad as we made him out to be.

But that was mainly because he wasn't as awesome as the Aussie's made him out to be.

I think most of the opprobrium (my current favourite word) directed at him was a direct result of the overrating of him by the Aussie media (particularly the Fox Sport cheerleaders).

Frankly I rate him as one of the better Aussie 10s in recent times.

    And he can tackle.

Not sure what his current form is like.
