Highlanders vs Canes
-

Hurricanes team with NMS under an injury cloud. Why is Jamison GP and J Marshall in the reserves ahead of TTT and Otere Black, surely its important to blood the latter for the future. In all honesty id like to see Beauden Barrett drop back to fullback and Otere come into first five. Imagine that back three of Beaudy, Savea and NMS - best in the comp by far.

Hurricanes: Nehe Milner-Skudder/James Marshall, Cory Jane, Vince Aso, Ngani Laumape, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara (c), Victor Vito, Ardie Savea, Brad Shields, Mark Abbott, Blade Thomson, Jeff Toomaga-Allen, Leni Apisai, Reggie Goodes. Reserves: Ricky Riccitelli, Chris Eves, Loni Uhila, Vaea Fifita, Callum Gibbins, Jamison Gibson-Park, James Marshall/Jason Woodward, Willis Halaholo.
-

If the Canes get slapped again then I might do a Crucial and jump ship. I've lived in Auckland for 4+ years now and with a good man like Tana at the helm they look an attractive proposition.

Ahh the life of a fair weather fan.
-

Apparently 15,000 tickets already sold for this one. Expecting a bit of a points bonanza in this one - under the roof and so much attacking talent on show (assuming the Canes show up this week).

-

If the tight five fronts up, and our halves perform to their expected standard then we will be hard to beat. In saying that the Highlanders were a force at home last year and even though Waisaki Nahalo is out injured they will go into this match as favourites.

-

TAB offering nice odds on the Canes.

Often see some good $ in these early rounds as it is hard to work out any true patterns of strength.

$2.40 win

$3.50 for a 12 under win

$4.00 for a 10 under win

Points start 4.5 @ $1.82
-

Boyd reckons we are fit enough but it didn't look like it last Friday. I probably wouldn't have picked Savea for this game.

Highlanders team:

1. Brendon Edmonds 2. Liam Coltman 3. Josh Hohneck 4. Tom Franklin 5. Joe Wheeler 6. Elliot Dixon 7. Shane Christie (co-capt) 8. Luke Whitelock 9. Aaron Smith 10. Lima Sopoaga 11. Patrick Osborne 12. Teihorangi Walden 13. Malakai Fekitoa 14. Matt Faddes 15. Ben Smith ( co-capt)

Reserves: 16. Ash Dixon 17. Daniel Lienert-Brown 18. Siosiua Halanukonuka 19. Liam Squire 20. Dan Pryor 21. Josh Renton 22. Hayden Parker 23. Jason Emery

Disappointing that, again, Ryan Tongia is not getting an opportunity to play. Hope he'll move to another team next year to get some game time. He's wasting his time at the Highlanders. Crusaders need a wing next year, to replace Nadolo, but maybe they'll be looking for someone who's big like Nadolo (which Tongia is not) ...
-

Maybe that is why the Crusaders have recruited Fifita, the Counties left wing, who is a big man (not as big as Nadolo though).
-
Jane run down pretty easily?
-
After a bit of a silly 22 by Smith (and penalty) Barrett gets 3.

0-3 with 5 gone.

Looks like a great place to go watch a game. -
Fekitoa scores, and deserves it after a huge break a couple of minutes ago.
-
5-3 after 11.

Laumape getting a bit of a lesson here.

Hospital pass early, Beaten before badly by Fekitoa, and now offside. -
8-3 after 14
-
Wonder if Savea is wearing 25 cos he couldn't get into the 11 sweater?
-
I fear this will be another reaming. The Canes are Swiss cheese this year. J Savea is a farking chocolate Bavarian.
-
Incredible turnover by Ardie. He's looking good - two nice runs so far too.
-
Barrett keeps them close with a long range penalty.

8-6.

20 gone -
Goodness, hometown not doing a good job of controlling the offside ..
-
Ardie needs to have a word with his brother about keeping in shape. Fuck he's strong in the tackle.
-

Much better this week.

-
Wtf is Woodward not out there?
-
11-6 now. Huge scrum from landers got them a penalty
-

Bit of redemption for Laumape in that steal.

-
Looks bloody hot down there tonight

One of best stadiums around I reckon, went there last year and loved it.
-

Hopefully because Canes have better players! Never been a Woodward fan.
-
Well, after getting all excited about the quality of rugby last week (well, bar the canes), this week it's definitely Super rugby early season.

Pretty good defense by both teams (some timely turnovers) but also a few mistakes which have allowed the pressure off when they've had chances.

Hurricanes scrum is a real worry, they are missing Coles. JTA doesn't seem up to it - I seem to remember that the AB coaches wanted him to move to loosehead.. maybe he should have listened because he has been getting worked in the scrums -
Really?

I think he's a bit underrated. Given their current resources, I think I'd have him out there in the midfield or at 15. -
Thought there could've been a penalty where Lima knocked on....not much intent for the ball from the canes jumpers
-
Hurricanes go close after a great break from Barrett around Fekitoa.
-
Laumape doesn't get that one.

Bet he's confused -
14-6 after 50 mins.
-
Smithy has that right.... squire could be a real impact off the pine
-
Great break by Laumape before a bit of a bad speculator..
-
Canes pressure finally rewarded
-
TJP scores after sustained buildup. Suddenly, things are going to get more interesting..
-
14-13.

20 left -
Suddenly Hurricanes looking dangerous! Woodward almost in.
-
Fekitoa does well to hold up Savea. Well done.
-
All canes for the last 10 minutes.

They take the lead.

14-16 with 18 left
