Any aussie-based ferners going to Oaks Day? I'll be there for the annual pilgrimage (in the carpark). Bizarre card, 1st race isn't until 1:50pm this year.

    All tips welcome!!!

@Hooroo Are you coming up to ellerslie on tues mate?

Unfortunately not. There was a fleeting moment where we pondered taking Polly there but we are sticking to our guns and spelling her.

Sir Charles Road running tomorrow in Lexus Hotham, last chance to get into the Melbourne Cup. Last start third owners upset by jockey who missed chance to get out early and get a clear run. Will be thereabouts. Currently just under $4 a place, not a bad e/w

Dear lord, I made some nice wagers today at the Breeders Cup at Santa Anita — the 2-day event is America’s “SuperBowl” of horse racing — but sadly, just minutes ago, missed on the last BC race of the 1st day. This one was for the Breeders Cup Juvenile (2yos) American championship.

The top three placings paid out at 45/1, 25/1 and 35/1 respectively.

    $2 Exacta paid $976.40.

The 0.60 cent trifecta paid $2,193.93.

20 cent superfecta (first 4 horses) paid $2,263.57

    The 60-cent Hi-5 (top 5 horses) paid $32,140.02.

And here’s the kicker — it was an 8-horse field, ffs!!!!

Melody Belle goes into the G1 Empire Rose at Flemington today riding a three-straight G1 victory streak at Hastings, with Opie aboard, opens morning fave at 3-1. Has won last six G1s it entered. Is that opening odd too short, too high, or is this a slam-dunk?

Well I guess that answers my question about Melody Belle, then.

Will be lucky to get her 2/5 by post-time.

Comms just mention Melody Belle has won more G1s than any other horse in the world this year.

    Awesome.

Opie had her well back at the turn, came around them all and exploded home.

I didn’t think I was going to get anything on Melody Belle alone (8/5) so played a $2 Exacta with her on top and six others in the two-hole, total wager $24, won me $100.90.

(I should have played the exact same numbers in the 20-cent superfecta though; those combinations would have cost me $24 bet and it paid — wait for it — $2,414.11. Even when I get it right I shit the bed on these fucking wagers. Regardless, thank you Melody Belle for winning me some money tonight!!)

Kiwi-bred Kolding takes the inaugural $5.8-million dollar Golden Eagle at Rosehill in a thrilling finish. Took him on top in another small $2 Exacta with him on top and Brutal and Sunlight underneath, won it on the latter. [Update:] $227.40. It always feels good making money backing a Kiwi.

Wow great win by melody belle, was great how she drifted too despite the rain coming. Made a very juicy pay, as did kolding, asterious, exceedance and good old pierata.

And the rugby is still to come!!

Well thank Fark I hedged that! Not the full hedge but enough to guarantee about 10k in profit. Really expected england to win but they simply didn’t turn up

    Still a good return.

What s fucking day at Flemington. Weather was shit, but buying grandstand seats right on the finishing post was an inspired choice. Amazing view, pretty easy to get beers, decent looking women everywhere.

Punt went fucking great. Getting the first two winners at decent odds means you are playing with house money all day. Ended the day well up, and with a half dozen bonus bets.

@JK Im happy you hedged it too. I had a terrible day on the punt yesterday, but happy to know you smashed it at least with that hedged bet

At 15 or so to go they were up 12-6 and England were looking desperate. 13+ was $9 so grabbed $100 worth of that which in the end turned to gold

Started with $25 and parlayed that into $330 at Flemington and Rosehill backing kiwibreds in exotics. Wagered all of the winnings on the seven Breeders Cup races at Santa Anita, so I was down to $4 in my account. Did not cash a single ticket for the first six races, that was five hours of torture turtled in a fetal position, before two bets in the last race (The Classic) netted me $650, so that felt good. I wish I could roll $25 into $650 every weekend. Trust me, it rarely-if-ever does. I’m going to bank $500 and spend $150 at Flemington for Tuesday, likely save $100 to wager on The Cup.
