NZ tour of India
-
First ODI starts tonight. Black Caps definitely light on experience for this series. No Southee or Williamson who headed home after the tour of Pakistan.
The last time New Zealand played an ODI in India without Tim Southee or Trent Boult in their line-up was in December 2010.New Zealand (probable): 1 Finn Allen, 2 Devon Conway, 3 Mark Chapman/Henry Nicholls, 4 Daryl Mitchell, 5 Tom Latham (capt & wk), 6 Glenn Phillips, 7 Michael Bracewell, 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 and 10 two out of Henry Shipley, Doug Bracewell and Jacob Duffy, 11 Lockie Ferguson.
-
It's an absolute joke that Nicholls is in the squad and Will Young is at home.
I wouldn't be getting my knickers in a twist usually over a meaningless ODI series, especially if said player may/would have been on the bench (like Nicholls was on the Pakistan leg), rather than playing actual cricket at home (like Young). But, with Williamson missing the India leg , what an absolute waste of an opportunity. Gaping hole there at number 3/4.
Very, very poor by Larsen/Stead.
-
"Absolute joke" is probably too strong.
Nicholls is a good player with a good record, and all .....
But they are wasting Young's talents.

Nicholls is proving to be pretty shit away from home.
But in typical fashion once back in NZ he’ll be on the verge of being dropped but rack up a massive score at home featuring six dropped catches and two successful LBW reviews.
-
the fuck is the point of going to India without Williamson and Southee?

As a series in of it's own, none. There's no point in any bilateral white ball series anymore. They are just filler. And money for the hosts.
But, there is an extremely major ICC tournament happening in India later this year. So, from that POV there is huge value for about 60% of this squad.
-
Sodhi now out of game 1 due to injury:
-
Santner takes a huge wicket!!!
-
Damn, Latham misses both a catch and a stumping chance.
-
Damn. Tommy dumps the edge (and misses the stumping), then Gill brings up 50 with a six
-
@LABCAT snap
-
Catches that one off Lockie
-
That seemed very much not out to me
-
@voodoo That was an atrocious decision.
-
You can't ship a double century to an Indian batsman in India and expect to win an ODI.
-
Sheesh an over to forget for Finn.
Needed him to stick around with a massive total to chase.
-
No chance of us winning really, but Bracewell is playing a beautiful innings here.
Hard to underestimate my anger of learning the game is live on youtube after reading it was on ESPN only early this morning. Would have been great to watch the 200 innings.
-
Bracewell 103 off 57. Got there with a 6.
His IPL price just sky rocketed.
-
50 for Satnav
Partnership of 153 off 98 balls.
-
India woken up again.
Santner goes for 57, I think. Trying to slog over. 59 off 26 needed and India have relearned how to bowl balls which can't be put away.
-
Shipley (who??) bowled second ball.
Oh well, it was fun whilst it lasted.
-
Blimey ... 31 off 14 now, Bracewell still in. Only two wicks left tho ....
-
24 off 12 .... This has been quite something.
-
Ferguson goes .... 22 off now 9 with only 1 wicket in hand. Most importantly ... did the batsman cross?
Only way to win is Bracewell gets them all.
-
No, looks like didn't cross. Shit.
-
20 off the last over needed. Poor last over for us, only 4 runs.
-
All over. Bracewell out lbw (plum).
Fantastic chase, wasn't to be, but brilliant watching.
-
Indian cricketers take a lot of shit for being dickheads, but to a man, they shook Bracewells hand at the end full of smiles and respect for what he almost did.

They changed the rules recently so it doesn't if they crossed anymore.
-
That's a scorecard that really makes you wish you'd watched the game - but 9pm - 6am is not a fantastic time for a Kiwi audience.
219 required in under 22 overs with 4 wickets in hand when Satnav walks out to join Bracewell - taking it to the last over is an epic achievement.

The players are fine, it’s the fans that are the dickheads

Most of the Cricket lovers in India are great,I have done 4 stints coaching in India at Academies and the Fans are fanatical but they really do treat you like Gods.
Even the people I had cleaning my Room at the Hotel where awesome I would come back to Find my towels made into a animal of some kind Always puts a smile on my face.
But it is a Terrible classed society the average worker gets treated like shit by the Rich no matter how hard they work.
Going from one end on the city to the other from Ferraris,Lambos and women dripping in diamonds to People living on the medium strips on card board.
Great country some only have cricket and nothing else,
Dickheads every where I guess but the average Indian in India at least I find great, the ones living in Australia not so much. -

It’s the ones that blindly wank on about Kapil Dev being so hard done by cos he had to bowl in Indian conditions and ignore the fact his record is actually better at home than abroad that irk me.

I’m disappointed I missed it. I fell asleep about the 37th over and Bracewell and Santner had just started going.
Im genuinely shocked how close we got and we’re still very much in it come the final over.

I know I run into a lot here in Brisbane through Cricket and they are mostly Rich privileged and virtually demand things because of who they are.

Dickheads every where I guess but the average Indian in India at least I find great, the ones living in Australia not so much.I've done two trips to India, the first in 2009 and the second in 2015. I had the same experience; the poor were treated horribly by the rich but their love for cricket is obvious almost everywhere you look.
I have a fond memory with my old man on our first trip over there. We visited a village in Jodhpur armed with cricket bats and balls because the locals literally had nothing. The kids were overjoyed, the parents not so much as it ended up being a massive distraction when it was time for them to do their homework.
As a country, I love India and there is something so majestic about the place, but it definitely has its demons.

Yep that sums up India great place to visit,And if you are involved in Cricket over there it is amazing.
I saw a lot of joy over there through my cricket involvement and some sad things I will never forget that burned into my soul a bit.I did 2 stints in Hyderabad at the Hyderabad Academy loved the place apart from the man made lake in the middle the Sulpher was a bit much at times and 2 in Mumbai Academy a beast of a city.
Scary trying to get across any road in Mumbai but loved the Tuk Tuk rides better than a rollercoaster. -
How is Young not even in the squad? He's better than Nicholls and Allen.

Allen is a work in progress and needs to be persisted with. He was looking good before being undone in one over.

He hasn’t convinced at test level yet but has started his ODI career with a hiss and a roar.
Very weird.
