What a joke, but to be honest are we really surprised?

He has always flitted with the shoulder tackle, has supposedly improved following the tackling school...

A quick look on FB shows that there is 100% condemnation over the decision. I don't think I've ever seen that before!

All the players and fans should want is consistency. This should lower the bar for every player who hits someone high from now on. But I'm sure it won't

To be honest, I am almightily surprised, but was this hit as bad as the one that broke Brodie Rettalick's jaw last year that wasn't found to be red card threshold because it was somehow an absorbing tackle??
I don't really like Farrell and thought he would get 6 weeks, but haven't really looked hard enough to see change of height etc anyway. I not sure if we not pissed that it's Farrell who has got off with his record or all really just concerned about safety?

    I'm speechless

The incident makes clear that World Rugby care more about their revenues than player welfare and natural justice.

If the game is going to survive, it will need a different governing body.

See I think we have to get things correct, World Rugby haven't let him off, it's the judiciary, which is an independant legal board, like a court. And would add to me it would of been 6 weeks without question.
    Also Judiciary was 3 Aussies!

Augustin Pichot wading in. This is going to get ugly quickly for the warm beer and sandwiches brigade.

@Dan54 We’re pissed off because Rugby is looking utterly ridiculous on the eve of its big global tournament.

George Moala got given a ten week ban.

So Moala can say goodbye to the RWC because he got a lengthy ban (which seems harsh), and Farrell doesn't miss a minute of game time for something that looked way worse.

Shows the benefit of pleading not guilty...if he plead guilty said sorry, promised to go on another course he would have to copped a shorter ban...instead, he plead not guilty and got an even shorter ban

Did I read that World Rugby can appeal the ruling? I know they don't often cave to pressure, but if the condemnation rises they may be forced to do something or risk looking even worse than they already do

I'm pretty sure they did when an AB got a light sentence a few years ago, if I'm remembering correctly

Tonga should immediately appeal Moala's ban.

    Are these mutually exclusive?

At this rate the referees will be too scared to ping Farrell for any of the numerous dangerous "tackles" he does in future because they know that even if they do card him (red or yellow) he is likely to escape judicial penalty and effectively make them (the referees) look incompetent.

Aussies playing the long game... knowing he'll do it again at some point during pool matches, and then get banned for all knockout stages.
