So the cricket World Cup is coming up sometime soon.

Trent Boult is in some form… we’ve gotta take him surely? But they won’t.

Conway is killing it, a lot of pressure will be on his shoulders with King Kane out injured.

    What’s our likely lineup?

    Allen
    Conway
    Phillips
    Mitchell
    Latham
    Neesham
    Santner
    M Bracewell/Sodhi
    Southee
    Henry
    Fergusson

    Plus extras out of;

    Blundell
    Young
    Shipley
    Tickner
    Milne
    Ravindra

    Have I missed anyone?

@Gunner who says they won't take Boult? I'd say they very much will.

Basing that assumption purely on the fact that they haven’t picked him in any format since he turned down a NZ contract.

Most comments from Stead have hinted that Boult will be selected for the white ball WCs.

I think that's pretty close but Neesham hasn't been getting selected in ODI's recently and not sure he will be much use in India.

Young is first choice for batting cover so he goes, maybe in the top 11 as Williamson's replacement.

Bracewell probably makes the top 11 over Sodhi, but both are definitely going to India.

If Boult goes, Southee drops to the reserves, if not probably Milne. For some weird reason the selectors are always keen to pick Milne I guess he has more experience than Tickner or Shipley but his record doesn't suggest he is international class.

So that leaves one spot for a batter which will be either Blundell or Nicholls. I guess that spot could potentially go to Neesham or Ravindra but I doubt it will.

He can't make the ODI team when most of them aren't available so don't think he has much chance. Selectors have pigeonholed him as a T20 player.

I know its the shorter form of the game but seeing those two names beside each other makes me want to vomit

I guess form counts for nothing? his List A average is incredible and is his best format by far. Not surprisingly Stead's hand's been forced again with another late concession after lacking the initiative to include him initially.

As usual the reactionary Stead does a complete 180 again, too slow to identify or recognize talent & absolutely zero foresight in anything he does.

I guess form counts for nothing? his List A average is incredible and 50 over is by far his best format, not surprisingly Stead's hand has been forced again after the lacking initiative to include him initially. As usual the reactionary Stead does a 180 again, too slow to recognize talent & zero foresight in anything he does.

Now that he has forced his way into the ODI team, I think he has a great shot of making the World Cup squad maybe even the top 11 as Williamsons replacement.

I think he will be competing with NIcholls, Blundell and Neesham (pretty sure Young will be going even if Chapman is in the top 11). Blundell has the advantage of also being the backup keeper but both Conway and Phillips can keep so perhaps we don't really need a backup and pick this spot purely on batting.

@LABCAT I don't think Chapman competes with Neesham, as Neesham genuine allrounder who can also bowl at the death, but valid point with the rest.

Really happy for him, Im also one of the ones who has been waiting for him to convert and was wondering why they persisted with him, clearly he had talent, it was just we had not seen it converted. Hopefully its just confidence and now he thinks he has a right to be there. If he continues with this he will be absolutely valuable for us on this type of pitch

Ferguson can be swapped for Sodhi when needed.

Oh man. What an incredible 12 months he has had, but gutted for him. Would have been a crucial part of our team in that format, in India.

Leaves us in a difficult position too, as we don't really have anyone good enough to be the third spinner now.

I guess Ravindra will be the one to take his spot, unless the selectors think Phillips can do enough bowling to support Santner and Sodhi.

Might be McConchie. Who actually surprised me in that Pak tour with how good his late overs batting/hitting was.

As in 3rd spinner in the squad.

I'd assume that scuppers any chances of 3 spinners in an 11, though. (apart from a part time like Phillips, Chapman)
