@rembrandt they stopped comments pretty early on in this one . It’s a bit rich for Curran to bleat when she pounced on David Bendon Popes seat when he was apparently having a nervous breakdown after being dragged through the media spotlight for his fuckwitted behaviour when he was a teacher.
Some gold in here

Cyber bullying costs nz almost half a billion dollars?
Oh Shamubeel Eaquab came up with those unsubstantiated figures? Not surprising then.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/107717359/online-bullying-costing-nz-444m-says-reportWow Jegga, you’re so cynical. As a matter of fact it’s well known that each single hurty feeling costs $18.50, the rest is just maths.
Actually I agree, these types of article are just nonsense and a decent journo would ask for his working and pull it to pieces. Asking people how much they would pay to avoid it is charlatan economics. If people aren’t actually paying you can’t trust what they say it’s worth.
What’s the economic cost of disappointment at not wining Lotto?
And as for the loss of life component, is there anything more subjective and emotive than the dollar value of a human life?
I don’t believe that everyone in the country pays $100 each every year to avoid something which has a fairly vague definition especially if, as we are led to believe, the young are predominantly the victims. Well sorry but they are effectively economically unproductive.
Edit: I see this is just one of several stories in the Herald today on this subject. Given it’s a theme, dollars to donuts they commissioned the economist to come up with this bullshit, so no wonder they aren’t very critical of it.

While I’m on the topic of Shamubeel he was all over the homeless crisis , back in February he co authored a report that claimed there was 23509 homeless people in Auckland. Of course they used the most tenuous criteria for homelessness they possibly could .
Turns out there’s actually 800 people living on the street in Auckland.
When did our news outlets decide he was an authority on everything? I thought Gareth Morgan was our national authority on everything, is there room for two of them ?

No worries love, can't see much downside to a fireplace not passing a building inspection...

I don’t know what a certified tradesman is but I’d a licensed builder did the work he needs to be in court for that . There are loopholes around transportable building but they still need to be built to code and as for the dodgy fireplace ffs .

I doubt they’ll ever pay up but this amused me

@jegga from skim reading in my Facebook feed he was a bloke travelling around nz or something. I've probably got it completely wrong though. The lady is all up in the Facebook comments section.
Interesting, I might have missed it but I don’t think she named him in the article.

As a layman it seems astounding how low the bar is in construction with regard to fixing shit up that doesn't last

@majorrage when I was at WDC in Building Compliance it was amusing coming across some of the illegal or unconsented structures...some had been there so long but just ignored.
This is without taking into account the work that had been done without consent because some of the rules were pretty anal (ie they applied, found thhe hoops they had to jump through and requiring resource consent disproportionate to the work they were doing)
Both my neighbours have a porta cabin on thier property, neither are consented and one I know would be subject to development contributions as it is self contained...fortunately we get on with them so I'd not dob them in...the other neighbours way up the back, illegally building a big shed on the other hand, noisy feckers, so they might get a visit from the council at some point!
