Good day on the terraces. BRB lager the go to. Missed opportunity for us. Kane and Ravindra’s dismissals were the most painful as they left a lot of runs out there. Blunder and Phillips doing what they do. The pitch looks pretty benign

At least it wasn’t Waikato Draught.

There are some seriously ordinary names in that list.

In saying that Glenn Turner scored a truckload at county level. A real shame he didn’t play much more for NZ.

I can’t believe how many Marshall, Rutherford and Patel got !!!

Seeing how cricket is going. I'd be very surprised if any players who aren't on the list make it on. Dipak Patel played more than 350 first class games. Hamish Marshall 250. In the modern cricket environment, no one will get near those numbers in the future. Sad to think these records are unlikely to be achievable for our young players

Oh yeah, it’s just the way the game goes these days.

Some of the old timers had ridiculous first class numbers, Jack Hobbs got 199 first class centuries !

I think the fact we lasted the day AND got over 300 gives us a pretty decent boost.

If O’Rourke can block out a bit and support Santner to get a few more then even better.

Root and Brook must be due to fail surely !!

Just seen all the days wickets. I think that is actually a worse collection that day 1, Christchurch.

Seddon Park so small, could be a 500 run day for bazball if pitch behaves

Would be quite funny if they are a similar amount behind at end of day 2 as at the Basin. Which was incredible.

It will be good in the new era to have a tail who aren't afraid of the bouncer and of the new ball. And bat for the senior batsman (which only O'Rourke does).

With Smith and Foulkes in the mix that dream may be a possibility.

This post and dream is ignoring the dumb and soft and falling onto obvious traps ... that half the top 7 did today. One easy problem at a time for the new super coach. Can't expect miracles like coaching specialist batsmen to not be crap while also coaching the tail to not be pussies.

O’Rourke has reasonably solid defence and knows his role well. Despite scoring fuck all runs he’s not the bunny his stats say he is.

O’Rourke survives a caught behind review.

I reckon Santner needs to have a swing, may as well try and add another 15-20 nice and quickly, no need to turn down singles !

He could teach some of the batsmen above him about how to place a value on your wicket

Patel, Marshall, Rutherford maybe. Probably could consider them "Journeymen" (which is not a bad thing). All good enough to play tests.

Also remembering Patel played a huge amount of County cricket before coming to NZ.

Kinda like the "worst All Black" arguments.

He adds bigger partnerships to the team score than Southee.

    This is statistical fact.

He should be 10, and Southee 11. The team would consistently get larger totals.

Wouldn't be a true blackcaps test match experience without complaints about Southee's batting. So, I'll stay true to form until the last.

Yeah poor from me, I try not to sink to that level and have a go at guys that, like you say, have played for their country.

    All out for 347.

Actually a pretty handy enough score, much better than I thought they’d get to

    Ha ha, southee.

I've never watched a benefit match before where the benifee is mercilessly pummeled. Don't England even know the rules?

Zak Crawley must check under his bed for Henry every night. ANOTHER caught and bowled !

That duel is 5 wickets for 5 runs so far this series

Early days but looking slightly ominous and familiar.

Henry getting some early, Southee bowling pies and Root and Bethel untroubled with Brook to come.

England will get 400 by the end of the day

Middle order really bailed out by Santner (and WOR).

    Here's a thought.

In a five day test match, why not hit most of the balls along the ground. Especially if you're supposed to be a specialist batsman!

Good to see Brook is human after all.

Thank god Southee was opening instead of O’Rourke. It lulled England into a sense of overconfidence.

    Coaching masterclass from Stead.
