The GOT books are hugely over rated. The first couple are fucking great. Then he killed off all his best characters and we got looooooong novels about people you barely care about

Killing off main characters are what makes it so GOT though. Can’t take any of them for granted.
He does over complicate the stories though, way too many sub plots and extra characters. The Frog, Penny, Old Griff.
Rather creepy how young they all were too.

which was great at teh start when he still had other good ones. But eventually you end up with an entire book about Sir Barristan and why should i care?

@Virgil I'll let you correct this spelling error.

    eat a bag

Ser, have you actually read the books or are you trying to sound cool and fake it.

if i wanted to sound cool, saying i have read the long, long books of a TV show would not be my first choice of admission

    You sound very defensive now

waaaaaiiiiit the fuck on. Having read the last page properly, you are LISTENING to the books? That's what dumb people who can't read good do.

Back in your mother fucking box

He lives in Auckland. It takes him half a day to travel one suburb over.

I for one applaud his ingenuity and time management.

Not a great reader, mainly due to lack of time.

Is stuff like Audible a good way to crack it out? Presume its not free...

I read the books previously but then decided to give them via Audible a go. Just finished Dance of Dragons a few weeks ago. Best part of a year to get through them. You appreciate how much the TV show differed from the books. The show did plenty right but got plenty wrong as well. Dorne, The Greyjoys (Euron especially) were poorly done.

Have since started (and nearing the end) listening to Fire and Blood. The whole Targaryen history of Aegons Conquest onwards.
This being the basis of the next GOT show on HBO i believe.

Some brutal shit went down, having just gone through the Dance of the Dragons chapters, which was basically a Targaryen civil war. 2 sides fighting for the succession of the throne.

I fear we will never get to see ASOIAF completed by George. By all accounts he hasnt even started book 7 yet. And here we are awaiting on book 6 which has had its completion date pushed out by years.

He needs to do a George Lucas before it’s too late.

Being fat and old doesn’t help his cause

Thank fuck we have Brandon Sanderson!

It takes ages, each book is hours and hours long, Dance is 49 hours long. But the reader of GoT is really good.

Did not ever crackafat tho, show is better for that than some bloke reading pr0ntastic chapters

You join audible for around $12 - $16 per month but that entitles you to 1 free book per month. Plus deals on others. I just joined long enough to grab each book per month. When you quit they try to lure you back with a sharper deal. You do that so you can grab another book.. it’s quite ingenious really.

I have all the ASOIAF in hardback, picked them up one at a time via Amazon a few years ago. Wasn’t cheap! But they are much more impressive in Hardback rather then paper back. Fire and Blood I grabbed via Mighty Ape on sale not long ago, think it’s was only $15.
Still a couple other books to get which I’ll also grab in audible too.

George has made plenty of $$$ me that’s for sure

@JK I'm not sure if they do an abridged version of his books, but they do for some other books...

Actually, listening to the No Such Thing As a Fish podcast, they talk about some audible book site where they basically condense heaps of books into 15 min summaries...not sure you want to go that far haha...I'll have to find the name.

i saw the ads for that, it infuriated me!! As if the world isn't dumb enough, lets condense books down to a 15 minute thing you can listen to!

seriously, we have access to more information than at any time in human history, and yet people was to actually read less.
