amusing watching Jack Tame interview Saint Jacinda this morning about Whinny saying he will only work with them if they release their tax details; the contrast of how passive he is with her to how aggressive he is when he interviews anyone from National, at least try to appear a little impartial you smarmy little f@ck!

Stuff is running with this beat-up nonsense. Public servants saying as little in public as possible at this time of the three year electoral cycle has always been the way. At least some of the commenters (outside of the usual ranters) have picked up on that...
"This is not new. I joined the public service in 1966 and the rules were the same back then"

Most MSM in the West are left leaning. All those hours dreaming of utopia in the university union shaped them. The public seem ready to give the keys to the country to Ardern who has a Key type charisma people are lapping up right now. Biggest difference IIRC was that the Nats had a much better formed opposition ready to take over from Helen's Labour whereas this lot were a rabble who lucked into the greens imploding and a fresh figurehead. They are riding the wave that swept through the establishment in the US and UK, promising to end poverty (really? It's that simple?!), increase numbers of plunket nurses, clean up waterways, build houses for the poor etc... so where the fuck are they going to get the money to do all this and what about everyone else that doesn't fit their poor with kids sweetspot?

What advantage does the country get from having property investment treated differently to other forms of investment?
I think what the Baron is asking in a roundabout way is one that is at the centre of the left/right divide, and that is what is the job of government? The premise of any argument that concludes a CGT rounds out the set of taxes, and indeed of your question, rests on a belief that all the other ones are beneficial, necessary and fairly applied. There are a great many people who disagree with that presumption. They don't buy that it's the job of government to tax just because they can. How come realignment arguments never include removing the other taxes to even everything up at zero?
I'd love to see the ESCT scrapped (speaking of pointless taxes), but TOP's policy is basically to rebalance taxation from income to wealth. I'd agree with that, although I'm sure it doesn't endear me to many here.
Taxing wealth is just nasty, it bases itself on the premise that it is ok to forcibly take form one individual and give to another. That never works out well. But that aside.. it is also a fantasy.
Politicians never really get rid of taxes. They talk a talk about moving away form Income tax.. but they NEVER will, they might lower them initially (unlikely) but they will creep straight back up again as the envious and inept class start bleating about it is unfair some people earn more. (as opposed to them currently bleating about others having more). You vote for a new tax.. that tax isnt going away anytime soon, taxes are never re balanced. Anyone trying to convince you that they are is lying. We will just end up with a wealth tax and income tax.
But the tax that really gets me mad is the inheritance tax, it is a disgusting money grab by the state of something they have ZERO right to. My parents are getting older and barely a day goes by that I dont go around to fix something, or deliver some food or other things to make there lives easier. We are a family, we have helped each other out for years, nowdays I even invest their money and budget for them. They have spent ALOT on taxes during their life and to be brutally honest scraped and saved their way to what they have now, When they pass away... why the fuck should Jacinda Fucking Ardern have any right to say that their family shouldn't get that inheritance and should instead be spent by the govt? -
@Baron-Silas-Greenback Time to hide it in trust before it's too late?

They will tax family trusts as well I would imagine. Tax... tax everything!.. and then tax it again.

They will need Winston, considering that his core constituents will be hit by that tax I'd hope he would impede efforts to set up new taxes on inheritance and trusts

He asked me what tax was and I explained to him that each month I had to give a large chunk of what I earned to the government.
His immediate response?
"But that's stealing."

Jacinda's comments about needing an "interventionist" government really concern me. She's way further to the left than a lot of people seem to realise.

@canefan but they will have a tax working group, surely that's sufficient for your vote? ...kinda like accepting a job and agreeing to negotiating pay once you start work
Maybe Steven Joyce's attacks are seeping in?

Worst possible result for Labour. They want the Greens neutered but they definitely don't want them creating a large overhang (large enough for Nats to govern alone) by just missing out on the 5%.
I still expect Greens to get about 6.5-7 and Winnie 7-8 ACT to get one seat MP 2 (but not necessarily the current two) and the rest shown to be the jokes we all knew they would be

I cannot really get to excited about this poll, as my faith in polls.. is at rather low levels. But I suppose it does break the trend of polls showing a Jacinda wave.
I am still nervous. -

I am still nervous. At least it changes the optics, until next poll at least. Up until now there was a feeling of inevitability about Labour sweeping to victory. Bill appears to have turned back the tide somewhat and the Nats should go on the front foot with that
