And today’s fuckwit in the news is the owner of these two dogs.

They actually are lovely dogs, ours wouldn’t harm a fly, tho tbh we have never had a stranger walk round back where she’s fenced off. 55kgs of pure get the fuck off our property
I’m sure they are , most of the time it’s bad owners not bad dogs .
It’s 50/50 when your out and about with her, people either run off in terror as they see her or stop and talk and say how beautiful she is.
I just like the idea of having an animal in my possession that can eat my enemies, hopefully that’s not a bad thing.. -

what were peoples thoughts on this? when i read first article i was all 'bastards dogs need to be shot'..
then followup article (that wasn't a 'headline') pointed out the guy opened a signposted gate and walked into an enclosed area where dogs were on their property then got attacked.
my stance changed immediately. I mean the first thing anyone says after a burglary etc is 'Get a dog'..
we've now got a scenario that's changed from my initial thought of 'roaming dogs attack innocent man' to 'retard goes into enclosed yard with 2 fcuking large dogs'.Not saying he deserved it - but I no longer think it's the fault of the dogs.

The article that ''pointed out the guy opened a signposted gate" quoted the owner of the dogs. He's going to do everything in his power to save his dogs. Doesn't mean he's right.
Look at this photo - he appears to be on the gravel road outside the property (assuming that's a fence/hedge in the foreground) and it's probably at the start of the attack, judging by the fact his clothes are still intact.
Plus, if he'd just opened the gate (something he'd never done before despite walking down that road hundreds of times apparently), why is he now facing back towards the fence, rather than running away as you might expect? Regardless of his autism.

IF that's the case, which it doesn't appear to be, then he should have a lock on the gate. Dogs are killing machines and will attack to kill at any perceived threat to their territory or pack. My issue with dog owners is they have no regard for this fact and make stupid comments like "my dog wouldn't hurt a fly". Newsflash.. EVERY dog would not only hurt, but kill a fly if it feels threatened.
-
Dogs are worse as a pack too, even when it’s a 2 dog pack.
I’m its own it’s less likely to show aggression, but when there’s another dog or more the aggression seems to compound.
People forget for all their domesticated history it’s still a wild animal decended from a wolf. -
@Virgil yeah, I love dogs and had a Rottweiler cross German Shepard growing up... she was a big girl. Very gentle with family and friends, really lovely dog overall. But we made sure we trained her properly so she was in no doubt about who was in charge, and kept her on a very short leash including being properly locked behind a big fence to avoid this type of thing. You've got to respect that they are fierce predators, and as you say even more so in a pack.
Given how stupid the average person appears to be it's no surprise we see entirely preventable dog attacks in the news all the time.

Not all dogs. Well trained dogs won't attack when strangers come on to property but they will bark as alarm.
Our dogs will bark when someone strange comes on to the property and as soon as they see it is a human and not an alien they wag their tails like mad in seek of attention.

A well trained dog is far less likely to attack but I disagree with the "not all dogs" comment. Even the best trained dogs have been known to do things out of character - if they perceive a genuine threat then they will defend their territory/pack the only way they know how, and it's not always easy to tell when they might perceive a threat.
