@Rancid-Schnitzel or held their nerve around some of the behaviour of their gulf region friends.
Pretty much everyone looks the other way when a vital trading/regional partner is doing some iffy shit. Which is shit but has been going on since year dot.

Agree, but it also depends on what that iffy shit is. Do we always count the bucks and never draw the line at anything?

Who would have thought two coalition partners using dog whistle anti Chinese racism to win votes would backfire?
I for one am shocked
Don't forget Labour's racist campaign against Chinese homeowners when they dug up a whole lot of Chinese sounding names as evidence of the (supposed) problem, despite many of them being NZ citizens.
Their attitude to the Chinese reminds me of Uk Labours attitude to Jews. “We aren’t racist but they have lots of money and too much influence so it’s ok to single them out totally without being racist”.
It surprises me his many people who are so pathetically woke in every other regard have a blind spot about Chinese people .Yellow privilege?
It's difficult because China is such a vital trading partner, but when they do utterly fucked up shit they should be able to be called out on it. Imagine if the US went bottom lip at every perceived slight.
The blur the line between Chinese people and the govt the same way the uk equivalent does with Israel and the Jews

Yeah that shit is fucked up. There are millions of Chinese people who have never even set foot in China let alone had anything to do with their govt.

@Rancid-Schnitzel it's sad aye... a lot of us (in the general sense) talk how ethics and treatment of people matters. But when taking a stand suddenly has a $$ factor or impact the gloss and/or mandate to follow through comes off pretty fast!!
-
Nothing at the billions of dollars level is about ethics. A casual glance at the oil and drug industries shows that.
You either choose to take the billions or you don't. In this case, considering the fact that China could whup us in an afternoon, it might be better to continue the ethics delusions for practicality reasons.
Or have no money and convince everyone that hunger is worth it for ethical purity -

We are not going to forego our trade deals just because they run their country different to how we would like it run.
Apart from North Korea, who else aren't we allowed to Trade with?
Iran and Russia have sanctions, Russia bought Winston back in about 2016 and he’s been whining about sanctions and condoning their behaviour ever since .

Say what you want about Helen Clark. At least she could think for herself and make decisions accordingly. The damage is done, saving face will cost us. Probably already is

@canefan @jegga Helen says England must let that terrorist back into UK.
Is what she did tantamount to Treason?

Hahahaha, I think they should too . they should also carry on arresting people for calling trannys men on twitter and elect Corbyn and then we can pick out the best and brightest from the inevitable exodus/stampede from the Uk
Sorry @catogrande you’re probably not going to make the cut. .

If we let Huawei implement the 5G rollout here in NZ we might as well CC in the Chinese military in all our online activity. It's a bad idea to let them have a dominant position here.
I'm reasonably ignorant around all this but didn't I read somewhere the UK is implementing it? Surely they wouldn't allow that to happen and have something in place to prevent it?
-
@Sneakdefreak although letting China reem them kinda goes against the whole reason for Brexit in the first place in wanting Britain to regain a bit more control of things.
