@taniwharugby how noisey you are, or your access to publicity can't be a tenet for justice though
-
@Siam empty can rattles the most...
You werent talking justice though were you? I thought you were talking about Fund Me Pages and if parents of a sick kid was an anti-vaxer...a parent might well be, but if they have not expressed this publically, no one knows therefore cant decide on thier course of action due to this.

I also don't think that the consequences are proportional here at all.
I don't think there is any way to meaningfully discuss the concept of proportional response here.
It is a single hurdle: the platform believed his reasoning for a campaign did not meet their criteria. They don't have to say by how much - just that he wasn't telling the truth about his reasoning.
Its murky, but the soul of Law is interpretation.
This will - without a doubt - help his cause.

And I don't think employers should be allowed to restrict what people believe or post in social media on their free time. No matter what their profile is.
That is a massive can of worms. If I start drunk tweeting at 3AM that my employer is a massive fluffybunny and rips their customers off, should I be protected? Is that acceptable behaviour? Would you employ someone like that?
I think there should be a limited capacity for that kind of employment law - they don't own you, and provided you're doing your job then all good.
But again:
- If you're specifically asked not to do something deemed bad
- Then do it again
- Then refuse to communicate
- Then are unrepentant
- Then admit in the subsequent hearing that it could be harmful
What leg would any employee have to stand on?
The statement I saw from Gofundme had nothing to do with terms and conditions but about “causes” and support for LGBTI community etc.
I think it’s evidently clear what is going on here. The fact that Betoota mentions terms and conditions confirms that wasn’t the reason....

@NTA It's not like they are forcing one of their muslim players to eat pork. He just had to stay of social media with anything resembling hate speech. His dad probably put him up to it anyway, and it's working out perfectly for him
I am uneasy with the term 'hate speech' being used so regularly today. I don't think it's definable in any meaningful way - it's basically just speech that causes offense, which is potentially anything, especially given the way people are now seeking out things they can take offense to.

Appropriate and inappropriate aren't relevant though for this. I probably said something a little inappropriate on Saturday at the races but it wasn't hate speech

In Australia at least the legislative framework around this sort of thing is a pretty complex web. There are federal laws (racial discrimination and criminal code) and different State laws that cover discrimination, offensive, vilification etc. From what I recall I don’t think there is an actual statute definition of the term ‘hate speech’ but all the laws define types of speech on certain grounds.

Yeah, it's quite telling that the term 'hate speech' is not itself defined despite it being bandied about today. Discrimination, particularly in employment, is already covered under the law, and I would be strongly against attempting to expand those laws to include people just stating their opinions.
This case is of course about the power of employers to regulate speech, but for me the same principles apply. I don't think a 'code of conduct' should include people just stating their opinions, it should be far more specific than that.

A former Australian netball captain, Liz Ellis, has hooked into Maria Folau for being married to a monster and is criticising the Australian and South Australian netball organisations for not saying so first.
Maria Folau plays for an Adelaide team which is being stared at by all right thinking Australians at this very moment, until it says something official and nasty about the horrid fellow.
The New Zealand sheila running the ARU (no-one knows why) has made some comment today about the immorality of stealing donations from kiddie cancer victims.
Simply put, everyone is busily looking after their corner by making life miserable for Israel Folau for inviting drunks and womanisers and half a dozen other sinner types to repent.

Mob to turn on Maria now.
Peace, tolerance, love is love but don't you dare even think about showing support for your husband or we will fricken end you you hateful bigoted fluffybunny. 🌈🌈🌈
After the election, that hideous bushpig Meshel Laurie labelled Australians as "dumb, mean-spirited and greedy". She's not only still safely employed, but I can't recall anyone going after whatever blind and/or mentally disabled creature is unfortunate enough to have shacked up with her. This is despite her insulting millions of Australians.
But she can say that because?

And here we get to the crux of the issue: the inference that Folau believes they should repent, as if homosexuality is a choice; something they can be cured of, or simply deny their homosexual urges.
Does anyone here believe that?
As for making people miserable: Folau is just as responsible for the ongoing drama as anyone. Surely, the good book tells him to turn the other cheek? If he's serious about a higher calling, that is.

To be fair Nick, good luck trying to deny one's hetrosexual urges by remaining voluntarily celibate until you tie the knot. I don't think even most Christians are able to make that choice. And all farking bets are off if you can't even choke the chicken.
He would also be saying that kids who die without being baptized are going to hell. What choice did they have?
This isn't a homophobe thing, it's a fanatical Christian thing. It's so whacky and absurd that I can't believe people are taking it so seriously.

The good book doesn’t hazard an opinion on squeezing your own lemon. What it does point out is that wasting your holy water is grounds for death:
“Genesis 38:8-10 New International Version (NIV)
8 Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.” 9 But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death also.”
