this bit...
When Sydneysider Nick Pfitzner agreed to be the first person in the world to have a Tesla Powerwall battery installed in his home
Was it free?
Anyone know what the set up cost is in NZ? I looked briefly at the LG (I think) Mercury were running a couple of years back and was about $20k with 6 or 8 panels I think?

Pretty sure you need a decent number of panels to make it possible to store your own power?
I’m not the expert though, @NTA do you know anyone who could give us advice on how this all works? -

@dK I reckon I pay on average >$250 a month (c$200 over summer and c$300 over winter)
4bed, 2 kids, a million TVs and devices, heat pump as our winter heating, had another installed start of last year, but barely used in winter but been getting used this summer to cool.

Faarrk, I thought Oz power prices were expensive, almost twice as much as me (although smaller home etc)

For the entire farm and house (we have two seperate meters) our bill is $160 per month in Summer and $220 per month in winter
It used to be around $220-$280 in Summer and $400 in winter until we switched to PowerShop where you can purchase 'cheaper' energy for the future (up to 6 months I think) so you're not as affected by the spot rate fluctuation.
And you get a rebate too.

@Toddy dont have the option of Gas where we are, all electricity, I thnk there was a levy of sorts added to Northland early last year too.
I did change provider late last year which provided a bit of a saving for us by bundling it with our INternet and Phone too.
We did get a 'dividend' of $250 in December from Northpower, usually get one every 18 months or so.

@NTA paid less in 4 years than I pay a quarter. On average I'm paying $400 per quarter. 2BRM appartment, air-con, all the appliances 2 Adults & 2 kids. Unfortunately as a renter I don't get to choose to have a power wall
Do you have a gas bill on top of that? My gas bill has gone nuts in the past year.
Oz power prices always seemed cheaper to me I guess because I moved directly here from NZ.

Fortunately gas is included at the place we live
