@Tim sounds promising...?
Sounds like a long way to go. Also sounds like people shouldn't just take the drug willy nilly as has been reported in the US for example
-
@taniwharugby Maybe. At least it's not discouraging.

I realise America is a much bigger country than Australia but fuck me that is some jump in a month. As I have mentioned before the spread of this virus must have started much much earlier for them to have the number they do. I also wonder how many people died from it and were not counted as they were not testing for it at that stage.
remember, that's positive tests, not numbers. I think the USA numbers were massive prior to the testing ramping up; they were just not seeing it.
That's kind of the message the Govt has been sent - that you don't know what is in the community because you're not testing. Test, baby, test

That's why isolation/lockdown is important. Even if you have the virus but don't know it, the fuckers should run their course within 2 weeks or so, then you are much less likely to unwittingly spread it to another

absolutely.
Provided this goes well, I suspect the end of four weeks will keep a lot of social distancing, but open up trips to work more frequently, and possibly restaurants/bars with limited numbers of people attending. Imagine - being able to get out of the house!

Why are Australia's testing numbers so high and the USA's so low?
Is it something about the test itself that the USA found difficult to produce? Or was Australia just a bit ahead of the curve in ordering them from wherever they are produced (guessing that's China?)

@canefan I think if someone said drinking bleach would kill the virus, some would drink it.
Sadly that's what some people literally do to their kids with autism.
-
@nzzp The US decided not to go with the test data provided by the Chinese and then stuffed it up, delaying things. Then for quite a while they were only testing people who were hospitalised. They allowed it to get out in the community and now they are scrambling to catch up.
Perfect storm really. Really mobile population who weren't informed and made poor decisions, slow government responses, prioritising economics ahead of health and inability (in a western democracy) to go down the autocratic route
-
Interesting timeline tracker of CV-19 globally. Things just go mental in the last 7 days

Probably coincides with the number of tests being performed?

FNM tour postponed until Feb-Mar 2021.

There's still massive push back against the lock down from some quarters. It's going to be extremely difficult to contain when you add those factors into the sheer size of the country/population. They're also doing a good job making it a partisan issue - American politics is just the worst.

The US is so fractious they can't get their shit together for the common good of the country

Considering I had no idea it was on, I'm now hoping I can pick up some tickets when they ahve the new schedule, I assume some people wont be able to make the changed time.
Hmmm, maybe this should be in the positives thread?
