@JC I stopped following it, but since it isn't big news now it it is probably become just another 'walls are closing in' moment. I'm sure the next bombshell is only a day or 2 away.
On a a positive note 4.8 million jobs added in June is a good sign. https://thehill.com/policy/finance/505577-june-jobs-report-economy-coronavirus-reopening
Trump's aggregated approval rating has also stabilised along with it.Would be great if 2020 had no more nasty surprises.
The jobs number is simply a rebound.
I have seen a chart that puts it into perspective. Massive drop followed by a small gain.
Yes, positive that the rebound has started but nothing out of the ordinary and consistent with the attempts to “re-open”
Claiming a victory from it has possibilities of setting up a failure should the growth not continue the same.Yep agree though I think Trump's approval rating and chance of success this election is tied pretty tightly to this, as such I'd be expecting Democrats (and their media outlets) to do everything in their power to ensure the economy does not recover and covid/blm/Godzilla (or whatever the hell is next) remains front-an-centre

How are the Dems going to stifle the economy?

I think covid19 is causing enough trouble on it's own with help from many of the population...... Considering that Melbourne has just locked down over a bunch of new cases that are minuscule in comparison to the numbers in many US states I see it as perfectly understandable that life has not returned to normal yet. I think you are giving them too much credit seeing as they aren't even in (federal) government

I am so surprised this is backfiring and also a little suspicious that the only reason they are now writing is because their views (as opposed to conservatives' views) are being attacked.
Liberal writers, professors and activists have come together and signed an open letter in the hopes of ending "cancel culture."

Time to teach them a lesson and embrace it.

Some members of the Democrat party have put forward the BREATHE ACT.
This is a summary of its proposals.
Section 1: Divesting from police
- Divesting from agencies like the DEA and ICE as well as moving federal resources away from incarceration and policing
- Eliminate ankle monitors
- End civil asset forfeiture, which even some conservatives say is readily open to police abuse
- End life sentences and mandatory minimum sentences
- Develop a "time-bound plan to close all federal prisons and immigration detention centers"
- Decriminalize and retroactively expunge both state and federal drug offenses
Section 2: Community safety
- Offer a 50 percent federal match for projected savings when states and/or local jurisdictions close detention facilities, including jails
- End cooperation with immigration authorities
- Ban "pretextual" police stops and searches, even where police obtain consent. It's not clear how the lawmakers would define a "pretextual" police stop
- Abolish police gang databases, as well as armed cops and metal detectors in school
- Forgive all outstanding court debt
- Tie state grants to intervention programs that involve specialists other than police responding to some 911 calls
Section 3: Allocating new money
- Create a plan to close youth detention centers
- Pilot programs for universal basic income
- Develop curricula that examine the political, economic, and social impacts of colonialism, native genocide, and slavery
- Create tools to promote environmental justice, including by subsidizing "community" energy solutions
- Provide lifetime education for illegal immigrants and the currently incarcerated
- Ensure all communities have safe access to water
- Eliminate state laws that bar formerly incarcerated people from serving as guardian for their own children or others in their community,
Section 4: Holding officials accountable
- Pass the Commission to Study Reparation Proposal for African-Americans Act and establish commissions to "design reparations" for mass incarceration to include those caught up in the War on Drugs, border and police violence and the "systemic violation of the U.S. Government’s treaty obligations to Tribal nations"
- Enfranchise all incarcerated individuals
- Guarantee private right of action for recovering damages when a federal official has committed a constitutional violation
- Allowing local and state resident voting for illegal immigrants

I think, that unless Trump changes tack soon, he will lose the election.
Relying on Joe Biden fucking up is a dangerous strategy.
The election is all about independents in swing states.Incessantly playing to the base is not the way to win.
Going on about statues, China's and WHO's role in Covid' and Biden's dementia are not winning strategies. He is now the incumbent and has to lay out a 2nd term agenda.
He hasn't done that.He needs a national address in prime-time to rise above the tit for tat blame game and deliver a properly unifying speech. A story of America kind of thing where he gives hopes and stops playing partisan games. Show some, dare I say it, humility. Admit to mistakes , admit to frustration. Right now, he is coming across as a caustic individual and I think independents are sick of it.
Can he show a human side?
Very tough for him.
He is from the ultra macho Roy Cohn school of attack, attack ,attack.
That's not what people want right now.I used to find him entertaining. Now I don't.
I want to see him re-elected, not because of him, but because of the danger of the radical left getting a foothold in the Biden government. I am absolutely sure Biden has made some deals behind the scenes with these crazies as a condition for their support.

Trump still gets big crowds for his rallies. And why. Because Trump offers a much better option than the dreadful democrats. Trumps biggest advantage is the democrats have been exposed. A leader (Biden) who is losing the plot. And a party who are full of left wing crazies. For example 5 democrats governors sending Covid patients into nursing homes.
My prediction. Unless the democrats rig the election (mail in voting for eg) Trump will win easily. Even those that don't like Trump will fear the alternative.
That's not what people want right now.
People prefer strong leaders. If ones on offer.

Please explain the theory around DMs rigging voting from mail ins.
AFAIK the theory works the other way. Mail ins tend to favour Dems simply through demographics and ability to attend polling booths (in the rather weird systems they have). Reps are trying hard to discredit mail in voting because, if successful, it will help their cause.

Good luck trying to get a coherent response from him buddy. I’ll summarise it for you though: Only votes for Trump are legitimate and the rest should be ignored, or even better classified as treasonous acts.

Google helps with looking at the pro's and con's of mail in voting.
But obviously mail-in voting is not as safe (or verifiable) as in person voting. Especially after all the Russia Russia Russia carry on the US should use the safer, verifiable option. Where only legal voters can vote with a robust, photo ID.
Mail in voting should almost be a non starter in such a key election. I'm suspicious why the democrats are so keen on this option.

Not sure if you keep up with current events but there is a pandemic thing happening at the moment.
Aren’t all elections “key”?
Change the voting systems depending on how worried an incumbent is about losing? OK that makes sens.

Well that's an opinion alright. It's a shame that you didn't tell them that when they started the postal vote system back in the Civil War. BTW what makes this more of a "key election" than any other one that preceded it?
I'm suspicious why the democrats are so keen on this option.
Yeah, why would anybody want eligible voters to be able to actually cast a vote? Maybe, as @Crucial said, they want to ensure that just in case people are confined to their homes they are still able to vote. Fuck, it's almost as if people were planning or something. I can see why you would be suspicious of that. They should definitely "wing" it instead.
