@reprobate 100% this ^^. I don’t know how it is that otherwise smart people continue to accept the narrative that Trump is some kind of genius based solely on the evidence of him telling them so. Of course being a real life Jed Bartlet isn’t necessary in a President, because they can get the best and brightest onto their staff to do the heavy thinking for them. But Trump thinks he is smarter than the actual smart people and ignores, alienates and fires them eventually. Apart from his family, of course, who I don’t see as being serious intellectuals either.
The fact that the Democratic alternative is a senile lightweight should be frightening for Americans I think.
I don't know that there are many smart people doing that?
There are a lot of otherwise smart people trying to decide the lesser of two evils though

@canefan well we know what we get with trump, had it for 3 years precovid, it isn't going to change. Lots of bluster, bravado, nonsense talk amid a mostly functioning society and economy and a dominant stance at least, internationally.
We don't know how radical the other side is and whether they've usurped power to institutions, education, corporations, justice etc. There is also compelling evidence of a "tear it down and something great will take it's place" ideology on the democrats side.
Slagging off trump with 3 months to go does nothing to make change or address the terrible state the us is in right now.

Biden's strategy of hiding away is working quite well.
I think Trump will try to force Biden to come out and start campaigning.
Trump should start going on the liberal networks and attacking him.
This will force Biden to respond.I still think Trump is in trouble unless he starts showing a bit more humility and focus (not a lot, but a little). Copying the meaningless platitudes of Biden would be a good start. Control the wild tweets and tie Joe Biden to the radical left - relentlessly.
Frank, I don't really understand how you can continue to think that Trump is smart enough, or disciplined enough to have a change of tactics. He has one setting, and that's it. He's been persuaded / attempted to change his presentation quite a few times now, and he keeps it up for all of about 15 minutes before reverting to type, every single time. So as to your suggestions: He will attack. He will not show humility or focus. He will not control the wild tweets. He will try to tie all and sundry to the radical left.
It's not exactly a complex psychological puzzle to figure out what he's going to do, the man is a moron.I never said that is what he will do. Just what I think he should do.
It is frustrating for his advisors (Bill Steppien the campaign head is smart guy) because he does have strategy sessions and then goes off script. He is very fickle.
What would you give his chances of winning the election? -

@booboo But a 6 year investigation carried out by whom? Why is this being filed in NY? Isn’t the NRA based in Virginia? So why isn’t it a federal agency that has filed the suit?
Don't ask logical questions I have no idea about.
I assume there is both a political motivation and crimes committed in NY.

Frankly (no pun intended) it feels like Sophie's choice to a degree, between a crazy old moron and a suspiciously senile old guy. I guess it comes down to their advisory team, I think Biden is more likely to heed is advisors, but where that takes the country anyone knows. What I do think is that not that much will change in material terms, the government will continue to function, just the tone of the Presidency itself

This. I'm one of them. It's a horrible choice, and how people vote is going to have much less to do with whether they "like" Trump than the pundits and Twitter believe.
-
@photo-fox yeah, it's a freakishly horrible position for all the fine American people.
"Anyone but trump" is not nearly as clear-cut as it was in the past, and the notion of voting over Biden to the vp is fraught with another lose lose scenario

Having spent most of my voting life in Australia the 2016 election was the most compelling case against compulsory voting the world had seen.
Enter 2020.
By all reports in many areas the queues are long, the process disorganized, November is frigid in the north east and in many cases your congressional district is gerrymandered. Why bother?
No sausages at the polling booth either.

I think the actions of Americans in cities like Minneapolis, NY, Portland, Seattle, Chicago and LA speak a lot louder than one American's voice.
Nevermind what trump is saying, rather look at what is happening. Yet more provocative quotes by trump is not what ails America right now.
He's the farken POTUS, and should be above the fray. Even Dubya, who people regarded as not the smartest tool even in the family shed, behaved with a degree of decorum and grace that Trump simply does not possess and that the nation needs right now more than ever
Would you prefer a PC (or nanny state) leader who sells the people out?

When has Trump ever said he's a genius?
His appeal is that he's down to earth (not PC) and he might serve the people (and not the greedy elite) by sticking to his election promises.

“Since 1871, the NRA has operated as a New York-registered 501(c)(4) not-for-profit, charitable corporation. Under state law not-for-profit, charitable corporations are required to register and file annual financial reports with the Charities Bureau in the Office of the Attorney General (OAG). The assets are required to be used in a way that serves the interests of NRA membership and that advance the organization’s charitable mission.”

“I went from VERY successful businessman to top TV star to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius … and a very stable genius at that!“
His appeal is that he's down to earth (not PC) and he might serve the people (and not the greedy elite) by sticking to his election promises.
Down to earth? Don’t be ridiculous. He wouldn’t move into the White House because it was a real dump compared to his penthouse. He IS the greedy elite.

Of course it won’t. Nothing we say will make any difference to anything. We’re a bunch of rugby fans thousands of miles away, with no votes and an audience of Polish girls.

@JC well that's a given that many of us have known for 20 years, and extrapolated to it's logical conclusion makes a forum totally meaningless- yet here we are🙂
It'd just be nice to have the trump smearers occasionally mention the merits of the alternative and how that'll work out for America.
Most of the world wants the character that is Donald Trump out of the whitehouse, but at what cost?
Logically, the trump haters have a worthy and better replacement. Never mention it though...

I think we have, haven’t we? Even if Biden wasn’t senile he’s a poor choice. But obliging us to have a better alternative at hand in order to call out Trump for the fuckwit he is is simply whataboutery. He is objectively an appalling person IMO, and I reserve the right to say so for no reason at all!

No, you can still hate Trump in isolation. I’ll hate Hillary another time.
