The system was not designed with Wily Win in mind
That's the problem.

A swinger. That is just a horrible thought.

@nzzp I'm very, very curious about the tea in that particular situation considering she has some actual concrete achievements to her credit.
presume yuo're talking about Louisa Wall? from the outside, she seems to have annoyed central Party, and there were then machinations to squeeze her out. Beware the central command eh
Was the opposite - she annoyed the local electorate committee, and the Labour president brokered a deal in which Wall dropped out of the running for selection and is now high enough on the party list that she will still get elected.

Not a political post, but definitely became a political issue...

@taniwharugby but wait they said it was 100% safe!

Collins questions if Ardern needs to play such a prominent role in covid19 press conferences. While I agree that she doesn't need to be there as much as she is, I think bringing this point up is not politically expedient

It's part of the point about delaying the election. Taxinda is effectively the only one that can campaign under lockdown.
Very Trumpian of her.

I agree. But it is a tricky situation as some will see it as petty in the face of the covid19 crisis. A political minefield

True, but what is the alternative? Meekly rollover? They are the opposition, and it's perfectly acceptable to point out things they disagree with. Especially when Miss Transparent "I never lie" is being disengenuous.

Yeah, you can't ignore it. At least JC is being a little more subtle than Soiman

I think Robertson's point was valid. If Cindy was fronting Nats would simply change their attack to "She was front and centre when it was all going well but now she's gone into hiding"
I agree its a lose / lose particularly for National who haven't even had their campaign launch yet. Supposed to be Sunday in South Auckland - yeah nah.
The timing of the election is a smokescreen. Labour has already postponed the dissolution of parliament which is a clear sign that they are thinking of postponing.

Labour absolutely do not want to postpone.
The delay to Monday is to give them time to work out how to spin it.
-
@Kirwan I agree they don't want to postpone - why would they, it's all downside from here for them, but there are certain prerequisites they have to uphold in order to have an election. Chiefly they have to have polling stations. We cannot hold an election based on postal or online ballots. We can't have polling stations when Akl is at Lvl 3. So while they won't want to they will be forced to postpone.

@Godder said in NZ Politics:
Delaying elections doesn't require a law change unless it is past 21 November - the delay in dissolving Parliament is in case more legislation is required for Covid.
So first Winnie joins with James Shaw to berate Judith for suggesting delaying the election. Now he comes out agreeing that delay is the right thing. Would he make his mind up or is he losing it?

Announcement at 10am if the election is delayed
There's a good case for pushing it back a bit... Labour have some incentives to not move it. Although if they are seen as overtly self interested there could be a backlash
My money is on it moving to November.
