In terms of signing in 99.9999% of any transaction I make is by eftpos (can't remember when I last paid cash for anything).
Surely that's just as traceable.
It certainly is.
There may be the personal privacy thing though?

@voodoo What's the contact tracing like in WA/Australia? Going into lockdown with only one case in the community seems over-the-top, unless they have contact tracing issues and expect community transmission.
Can't speak for WA, its like a different country. But NSW got on top of the recent outbreak here over Xmas with a decent job of tracing. That peaked at
c. 20 cases in a day IIRC, with 150 total cases, so much higher. And it was gone in 2 weeks.**That said, I reckon people are now VERY lax about scanning
**
WA is a strange place, a country unto itself. Maybe they already know this guy was super active, or maybe its a massive overeaction. I'm guessing the latter.I haven't come across this on this side of the Harbour, scanning is still happening in all cafes, restaurants, bars etc etc. Although I did notice that outdoor markets codes are not so prominent after the easing of restrictions over the weekend.
Just ducked up to my local Stocklands to grab some stuff for dinner. Thought I'd spend 5 minutes testing my assertion.
I just watched 15 people in a row go into Coles without scanning . In fact, I haven't yet seen a single person.
And its hardly a surprise its not front of mind anymore, I mean look at the placement at the entrance:
TBH, I wasn't including supermarkets in still happening over here. For the most part supermarkets haven't had them outside maybe two periods.
Balgowlah?
@voodoo said in Coronavirus - Australia:
I dont think people are really scanning to help the tracking process
What the hey? That's 100% why I do it. I can't remember where I've been on any given day let alone for a week.

Mate, I just dont think people are worried anymore. We haven't had significant cases in yanks. When we had an outbreak, it was shut down and contained asap. And we have zero people in hospitals.
People are just done with it

Weird that is the case over your way considering you've had a more recent outbreak - as most places over this side are still pretty insistent on it being done.

Small shops are still. But I also don't think they're concerned. They just don't want to be fined. They all complain about wearing masks.
Even during the "outbreak", shops were still fucking busy around here. Apparently "essential" shopping includes Bunnings, all of Warringah Mall, the supermarket every day.
Just over it.

I'd rather eat the packaging than the chicken from KFC.
Should be sued for misrepresentation. Always smells so good and tastes shit.
Seldom eat it - only if had a few and its the only thing open and always regret it within an hour of eating it. The grease does dreadful things to my gut - internally and externally.
KFC is fucking fantastic. I could eat a bucket, no problems. Yeah, I'd feel like shit afterwards, but I often feel like shit after drinking 10 beers too, so their is a first parallel!
Rarely eat it as it's so damn bad for you and the chicken they use is certainly not free range, but every now and again it perfectly hits the spot.
Hands up, unashamed KFC fan.

People are just done with itI don't sign in. It's simply a non-event for us. If I lived somewhere else surrounded by filthy disease ridden peasants it would very likely be a different story.
Ultimately it's not laziness, but I am concerned about handing information out to marketing companies, randoms who aren't abiding by the NPPs etc.

...wow...so surprised...the AO has had a leak...I never would have guessed...
-
here we go
Victoria Cases spike! Lockdown imminent!
Cases = 13. All traced to close contacts of quarantine workers
Number in hospital? 1
-
Every single covid case in Australia comes from quarantine workers going home positive.
Job vacancy: quarantine worker. Tough conditions where you must stay at the hotel for 2 weeks, ostensibly the same as the people you are servicing with more stringent daily testing procedures. We will house you on a separate floor in the hotel and your meals will be supplied. We realise these are harsh working conditions but you take home 10k tax free for your 14 day shift. A bit like fly in fly out work in other industries. Tough measures or opportunities for tough times.
Please apply in writing....No?
Edit. To add some context, less than 2 months ago the authorities proudly announced that testing of quarantine workers was about to begin. That's right, they weren't tested before that - just go home, see ya tomorrow. Most of us assumed they'd get a swab every shift rather like clocking in and clocking out. Nevermind revelations about 2nd jobs etc for workers
But, the science is clear and the people in charge are beyond reproach for idiots and nutters like me🙂 -

@mariner4life said in Coronavirus - Australia:
@Siam wouldn't it have to be 4 weeks? 2 weeks on, 2 weeks in iso yourself?
or make it like real quarantine, where everyone working there is in HAZMAT
I don't know mate but apparently we've sacrificed 5 years of not leaving the island so you'd think someone might have an idea about how to stop infected people getting out of an infected hotel.
That skiting about "quarantine workers to be tested" after a year of well d'uh beggared belief

are there any stats around how many people in quarantine have tested positive against the numbers that have come through quarantine?
-
@NTA said in Coronavirus - Australia:
Crazy idea, but let's get the refugees out of detention centres, and use the detention centres for quarantine?
lol, how about one step further, we employ them to be the quarantine workers..
