Defending your home

thought he had, but wow, 2009, doesnt seem that long ago!!

extreme red mist there!
-

So a tagger is basically a graffiti vandal? I'd assumed it meant a guy that was wearing an ankle tag. Chasing a poxy vandal with a knife is waaaay over the top.

Yeah but theres the possibility that you're so blinded by rage at the invasion of your home, the terror said shithead inflicted on your family etc.....plus if you detain them then you're potentially stopping any chance they can do it to anyone else ?

Fuck, who'd be a lawyer......
-

Yep MN5, a muddy pool for sure. But - if you've stopped the threat any legal defence based on self defence is open to being ruled out.

Bo staff and wooden practice katana in the wardrobe, along with a pair of sai.

Only issue is going to be choosing which. Sai, probably. Better for CQB and defense against weapons.

Not to mention Mrs TA would get the shits if I put the bo staff through a wall -
I hope the wardrobe is nearby and easily accessible Nick?

I have a fuck-off big Maglite under my bed, just in case the power ever goes down...

If you're someone who's wreaked revenge on a home invader then you want me on your jury.

If I managed to get a burglar cable tied and subdued I'd call the cops [but not let him know] drag him down to the garage lay him on a polythene sheet and put on disposable overalls and get out a few of my favourite chainsaws and spend a while trying to pick one out while discussing it with him at the same time "which one do you like? ................this ones a homelite xl12 same as they used in texas chainsaw massacre.............but I think my pro mac 700 has the sharpest chain at the moment ............ " by the time the cops got there to take him away I'm sure his mental state would have changed irrecoverably without me needing to go to jail.

Btw one of the guys I work with caught a burglar in his basement and knocked him out cold with a couple of blows with a pool cue, he didn't get charged with anything but the judge told the burglar he could pay for the damage by working for him for a couple of weeks for free as the burglar was jobless and would take for ever to pay it off at $10 a week. Noel was a prick to work with at the best of times, it must have really sucked working for the old bastard for free and overhearing him telling everyone why you were there and hearing them crack up at your expense, nice work there from the judge.
-
Good chance they will plead it down to a lesser charge. Police often charge someone with a higher charge to give themselves some bargaining power.

At the end of the day if you decide to go hands on with somebody you better make sure you don't inflict grievous bodily harm or death unless you can show you were in fear of grievous bodily harm or death yourself. And as somebody said earlier, as soon as the threat is gone you have to stop or reduce your level of force. -

I have in the role of first response but not as the investigator. That is done by the 'Can't I'm Busy (CIB) lot once we have made the scene safe for them. We can't have them getting a fright and spilling their coffee over their new shirt.

Someone mentioned they were advised to let somebody go if they run or attempt to leave. I agree with this. I know of somebody who is facing deprivation of liberty charges merely for blocking a trespasser's car with their own to prevent them from leaving after having called police. The law is an arse sometimes, don't put yourself at it's mercy.
