I used to love that show. The ships had a cool mechano-like vibe, and some pretty decent actors in there too. I didn't know it was a Gerry Anderson show
It was great. It's showing on FTA here so I must record a few episodes for nostalgia

An absolute classic. I love watching the reruns of that show. And Hogan's Heroes. So many brilliant gags. Don't forget the Cone of Silence
Hard to go wrong with Mel Brooks as a creator. The film of a few years back was pretty good too.

I have a soft spot for Anne Hathaway too

I remember this as a kid:
Also Battlestar Galactica.
There's an ad running currently for Audi.
Car has gull wing doors and fold up cut away steering wheel.
Reminds me of the cars from Logan's Run.
Had to edit. Bloody autocorrect.
How does "gull wing" become "following"?
-
@antipodean Sorry to be all pedant but that's the movie version isn't it?
I can remember watching the show, thinking the cars were awesome - just checked and the cars don't look as awesome as I remember and wiki notes the show flopped and didn't even get a full season.
Does anyone else remember Ark II? The ape and the uniforms look exactly how I remember, but the truck looks different.

Apparently yes. I've no idea if I've ever watched it, I just recall loving the show as a very young child.

At the risk of a #booboo this popped up in my suggested YouTube videos ...
Pretty sure this has been mentioned...
. .. but getting lots of follow on vids on the series and the stories behind the show.
Awesomely cool back in the early 80s when 1999 was so far far into the future.
UFO is better. Also has a gull wing car.

We're watching the 1960's Maigret on a vintage UK TV Channel.
Aging production values but well-written and some great acting with Rupert Davies as Maigret and NZ's very own Ewen Solon as Lucas. Really good - and can see why it has a 8..1 rating on IMDB.
I’ve been watching this too. Seeing the Rowan Atkinson ones sparked my interest and I was curious as to how the 1950s show would stack up. Sound quality and sets are much inferior but the stories and the acting compare very well IMO.
-
As an aside, have you watched any of the Michael Gambon version of Maigret? From what I’ve seen, it is pretty faithful to the books, in spirit at any rate.

Think I've seen 1 or 2. Were pretty good from what I recall. Need to track down the entire series.

Love this from the 2 Ronnie's...Four Candles...

@booboo i absolutely loved all those shows. Thunderbirds was probably my least favourite but was still cool. Stingray. Joe 90. Captain Scarlet. All very cool
Captain Scarlett was my favourite but was the one that was the least repeated.

@canefan high quality, piss funny show. First time i saw it i laughed so hard i cried.
It appeals on so many levels. As a kid I mostly enjoyed the more obvious humour, but there is a lot of wit and satire in there. And the show's guest list reads like a who's who of British comedy over the last 40 years

As a tweener in the 80s I loved this
Following an unfortunate rail incident a few years ago I said "You took your time you bastard" in my best Vivien voice as a particular body part was reunited with the rest. Everyone else was too young to get it, but I laughed.

Interesting trivia: The reason why the puppets prior to Captain Scarlett had oversized heads was that the 'Supermarionation' used was a solenoid attached to the mouths that moved them according to the sound/lines being used.
For CS the puppet makers had worked out how to place the solenoid in the chest so the heads could be in proportion.
