its really interesting, logan is often considered one of if not THE best marvel film and it properly ended...and yet they seem to not have batted an eyelid at making a mockery of it

the call backs and how it was handled was superb.
Hugh Jackman really is a beast, loved the 4th wall jokes.. The 'he's normally shirtless but let himself go since the divorce'' especially.

Don't know quite where to put this, but I'll stick it here:

"Blazing Saddles truly pulled no punches with either its satire of prejudice or its raunchier moments, but there was one joke Brooks pulled at the last minute."

"When Lili Von Shtupp (Madeline Kahn) character seduces Bart the sheriff (Cleavon Little) in the dark, Von Shtupp asks Bart if a certain size-related stereotype is actually true. A confused Bart responds, "I hate to disillusion you, ma'am, but you're sucking on my arm."

Havent seen either in years (decades likely) but always remembered ZULU was superior
Might have to track them down for a re-watch

I saw Zulu Dawn first as a kid, and for many years thought that it was the only movie - I just thought it had a slightly different name in different markets. So, as a kid I always preferred Dawn and didn't watch Zulu until many years later.

I think something similar happened with The Wild Geese movies as a kid. Must have depended on what the video store had in stock.

I think the sequels to both were more action and less drama so kid me enjoyed them more.

Wild Geese..man i havent thought of that movie in years
As a kid i grew up watching old War movies. The Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes', ZULU etc
Westerns as well, 60's and 70's was the peak time for those films (for reference i was born in '72 so watched those as a kid either on broadcast TV or VHS)

Same here, I loved watching those old 60s war/westerns with my Grandad. Awesome memories.

Von Ryans express was another classic of that era.

Every time I saw it I hoped Frank Sinatra would make the train at the end but he never did 😞 my first memory of a hero dying in a movie if I remember rightly.

    Thats a good fun flick.

Apparently Clint got frustrated with Richard Burton constantly being pissed on set.

So I thought I'd get an early start on my watching of all the Oscar best picture nominations this past week.

A Real Pain: Jesse Eisenberg directed movie about two cousins, him and the Culkin from succession who travel to Poland to see where their grandmother, who survived the holocaust was from. Culkin will win best supporting actor. In the end this didn't get nominated for best picture.

Conclave: A movie about choosing a new pope. Better than it sounds on paper. Good performances, a bit of a mystery storyline, not really pro or anti Catholicism.

I've only seen two of the nominations so far this year and there's some I wouldn't have watched otherwise - Wicked and the other musical (I don't like film musicals but like theatre0, The Brutalist as it stars Adrien Brody whose screen presence I really dislike., and annoyed I didn't see Substance when it was at the cinemas as I'm not really a horror guy.
