Caleb Clarke might be unavailable in Super Rugby Fantasy but he's a hell of a character in GTA Auckland.

NZ has changed, friggen nanny state. There was a time when we wanted our wingers to be as elusive as possible.

I'd imagine there was a time back in the day when simply being an AB was enough to get you off this kind of thing. Sign a couple of autographs and back on your bike.

Pretty ironic he doesn't want to be in fantasy due to it being a distraction to his rugby.

TBF, we went pretty nanny state in the early 2000s with the other Caleb and then again in the late 2010s/early 2020s with Bridge.

The judge, in his sentencing, noted the All Blacks' lack of a power winger who is also good in the air counted in his favor.

Until 2018, when NZ selected a Bridge and got over it.

@MN5 i will once again admit my previous ignorance, id always assumed a diversion could only be used for something like public intoxication or taking a leak in public, maybe nicking a road sign....nothing really dangerous

Diversion happens before charging as the police opt not to charge someone, most commonly a first offender and usually in return for some level of apology, admission of guilt and some minor community service.

This has reached court and a guilty plea, with Clarke seeking to be discharged without conviction - the court's decision on that will be part of sentencing in June. The financial impact of a conviction in terms of loss of potential earnings would be massive, so that's usually a major factor for the judge to consider.

The more I think about this I'm convinced Clarke did it on purpose in the PI player gets in trouble with the law and then is guaranteed selection in the AB policy.

After all he did try the constantly injured all the time and still first name on the team sheet for a while but that policy is reserved for white guys from the south.
