Pretty hard to disagree with that, even when Conway's scored runs the last 2 seasons he's looked out of sorts.

Coaching in cricket is always a balancing act when a good player is out of form - you need to give them some time to try to regain form, but at the same time you can't just keep selecting them over new prospects longer term if they don't regain it.

I think Stead erred too much on the side of continuing to pick his established players despite poor results (Southee, Nicholls come to mind). I'm pretty happy if Walter is a bit more cut throat in that regard.

Yeah Conway had a magic start but his form has absolutely fallen off a cliff.

Will Young has done the opposite and showed he needs to be persevered with although it’s still a concern a big score in the longest form has eluded him.

Shame to see Mitch Hay miss out, thought had looked good in his appearances last season

He hasn't really nailed down t20 batting, yet. Even at domestic level. Looks like Seifert is who they are inking in for that for this T20 cycle.

The decision of Blundell or Hay for the upcoming test squad will be interesting, though.

Yeah I agree they should be developing him he is the best WK in NZ and showed enough for Canterbury and NZ in 20/20 to be selected.
Siefert is a hit and miss Wk who gets untidy in 20/20 you can't afford to let runs through behind the wicket a good 20/20 bat.

Weird thing is these tests aren't part of the current WTC cycle.
Disappointing (unsurprising however) that KW and a couple others choosing leagues/county cricket over playing for NZ.

Getting paid vs spending 5 days grinding in the heat in Zim ... you can kind of understand it. This is the modern way of cricket unfortunately - so much money in the leagues

Not sure it's that bad in winter.

Just googled Bulawayo: High of 24 on Manday, forecast 17-18 rest of the week.

2-0 series victory provided the weather holds. Zimbabwe don't look like a test team to me.

Conway can thank his lucky stars KW is unavailable. His place must have been in jeopardy.

Is Jamieson unavailable or injured ?

Disagree. I'm very pleased KW is missing this tour.

But, I'm incredibly disappointed that his vacant place on this gimme tour is being back-filled by a fully declinef 33 year old.

What an incredibly disappointing test squad, opportunity wasted.

Yep, shocking that Nicholls was even considered let alone actually selected. I can only imagine it is because he is one of the 20 NZC contracted players.

Good to see Matt Rowe get a full contract with Canterbury after moving from CD.
Probably the most promising Under 20 year old quick in NZ.
One to look out for in the future.
Has good pace moves the ball late creates good bounce and comes over the top nice and tall with a good seam up.
To me he looks the best young quick we have had for a while.
Can hold a bat as well can establish himself as a decent no.8.
