Investigators believe it's likely the newly recovered trove will include emails that were deleted from the Clinton server before the FBI took possession of it as part of that earlier investigation.
Keep it quiet until after she is elected.
Yeah.....nah.If they have that & she's elected they can indict & she is no longer pres. If they don't have that & the go live now (as they've done) they risk swinging the election & ensuring she cannot be pres, and then going "oh, nope, there was nothing there".
They said "it's likely the newly recovered trove will include emails that were deleted from the Clinton server before the FBI took possession of it as part of that earlier investigation" I completely buy that, she calls Huma her second daughter, I'd be amazed if she had not sent personal emails to her & then deleted them, same way she deleted emails to Chelsea. Especially with Huma going through a divorce at the time. You are confusing that "likley there are emails" with "likley there are illegal emails".
That's why its is very unusual for him to go - right before the election "We MAY have something, MAYBE, we don't know, its not even from this case, but I think I should send an open letter to congress a week before the election"
You are acting like if she is voted in the FBI cannot then make a case against her. This isn't a dictatorship, she's not bulletproof Nov 9th.
Also, you & I had a discussion last week where you felt the Clinton machine had forced the FBI into not doing anything & that was a core reason she was unfit. My line was the opposite, Comey had actually not been gagged at all & had even over stepped his remit.
That still working for you? You still think the FBI & Comey have their hands tied by a shadowy evil cabal? Or was all that paranoid delusional bullshit?
Also I was off for the weekend as usual, but you wrere suggesting people listen to Stefan Molyneux -
""Molyneux argued that violence in the world is the result of how women treat their children, and that "If we could just get people to be nice to their babies for five years straight, that would be it for war, drug abuse, addiction, promiscuity, sexually transmitted diseases, ... Almost all would be completely eliminated, because they all arise from dysfunctional early childhood experiences, which are all run by women.""
(thats one of his most mainstream views)
Seriously man, you need to really take a closer look at the people who are driving your world view, because everyone you have posted on here is basically running / promoting a cult & exploiting the stupid, the vulnerable & mentally unstable

Now Comey at the FBI is under the spotlight as he was advised by the justice department not to make the new enquiry public as it could be construed as interfering in an election.
I guess Comey really wants Clinton's guts.
My guess is that straight after the election Comey gets to offer Obama his resignation, which will be regretfully accepted.
Didn't realise this, but he has a 10-year term. I don't think he's going anywhere.

He can be asked to resign, and probably will be I suspect. If he says no it's likely that some Dem lawmakers will push for his prosecution under the Hatch Act, which would probably make his position untenable. If found guilty the AG would be able to dismiss him.

He may or may not have done it to influence the election (I'm not convinced he has), but if nothing comes of it the Obama administration followed by the Clinton administration will try to push him out (assuming Hillary wins)

To be clear, you would not be the guy telling everyone to drink the cool aid in this scenario, you're not authoring these, you are watching them & the posting them as things you now believe in
From the Daily Telegraph today (pro GOP Uk paper) -
"So Mr Comey threw all normal rules out of the window. Despite having no information about what these emails contain, and despite longstanding Justice Department policy that the FBI doesn’t make sensitive statements right before elections and never comments on ongoing investigations, Mr Comey went public. The FBI, he wrote, would “review these emails”. All hell broke loose.
Bear in mind that neither he, nor any of his staff, has yet read a single one of them and can’t do so until they obtain a court order. So the FBI’s agents have no idea whether these emails are relevant to its Clinton investigation. They don’t even know whether these emails are ones they’ve already seen among the information Ms Abedin previously handed over."

You seriously think Comey had no idea as to the content of the emails.
Members of the NYPD sex crimes unit saw these emails.
People talk.
Don't be so naive. -
The letter was sent before the FBI obtained the warrent to look at the emails.
No, no one in the sex crimes unit has seen those emails. If they have they can be tried &, worse, the entire case against Weiner - and any potential case against Hillary is over. I can get why you might not understand this, but no one in the FBI fails to grasp the basic chain in this.
The idea that senior FBI official read the emails without having first got a warrent (destroying the case & their career) and then told Comey, and Comey did this rather than reporting it (this destroying the case & his career), is so far out into stupidsville.. I really have no words..
-
@gollum Frank never said senior FBI official read the emails and told Comey. Why don't you go and read his post again? Then read your stupid arrogant post, and apologise. Do you have the integrity to do that?
This is a direct quote from the WSJ that directly disproves what you said:
The latest development began in early October when New York-based FBI officials notified Andrew McCabe, the bureau’s second-in-command, that while investigating Mr. Weiner for possibly sending sexually charged messages to a teenage minor, they had recovered a laptop. Many of the 650,000 emails on the computer, they said, were from the accounts of Ms. Abedin, according to people familiar with the matter. Those emails stretched back years, these people said, and were on a laptop that hadn’t previously come up in the Clinton email probe. Ms. Abedin said in late August that the couple were separating.
The FBI had searched the computer while looking for child pornography, people familiar with the matter said, but the warrant they used didn’t give them authority to search for matters related to Mrs. Clinton’s email arrangement at the State Department. Mr. Weiner has denied sending explicit or indecent messages to the minor.
In their initial review of the laptop, the metadata showed many messages, apparently in the thousands, that were either sent to or from the private email server at Mrs. Clinton’s home that had been the focus of so much investigative effort for the FBI. Senior FBI officials decided to let the Weiner investigators proceed with a closer examination of the metadata on the computer, and report back to them.
At a meeting early last week of senior Justice Department and FBI officials, a member of the department’s senior national-security staff asked for an update on the Weiner laptop, the people familiar with the matter said. At that point, officials realized that no one had acted to obtain a warrant, these people said.
Mr. McCabe then instructed the email investigators to talk to the Weiner investigators and see whether the laptop’s contents could be relevant to the Clinton email probe, these people said. After the investigators spoke, the agents agreed it was potentially relevant.
Mr. Comey was given an update, decided to go forward with the case and notified Congress on Friday, with explosive results.
-
He said Comey was aware of the content of the emails. If that is true its in direct violation of US law. What I said stands. For Comey to know senior officials at the FBI would have needed to directly violate their search. Comney would know that. IE what he said is utter pigshit & wrong. As is what you just said.
Nothing in your WPo quote says they have read Adedins emails - which LEGALLY they are not allowed to do under a warrant issued for Weiner's data.
Here's a very simple direct quote from Justice explaining it (which your WPO post does not)
Twenty-four hours after FBI Director James Comey shook up the presidential race with a letter to lawmakers revealing it had discovered emails that could be related to its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, investigators still hadn’t been able to read any of the material. As of Saturday night, the FBI and the Justice Department were still in discussions about obtaining a warrant to let agency officials read the emails that were found on the laptop of disgraced former lawmaker Anthony Weiner, according to Yahoo News reporter Michael Isikoff.
“We do not have a warrant,” a senior law enforcement official said. “Discussions are under way [between the FBI and the Justice Department] as to the best way to move forward.” Isikoff's reporting echoes stories published by both Bloomberg and CBS News that said the FBI had still not been able to secure a warrant to examine the emails by Saturday afternoon.
Although Donald Trump and some of his supporters have suggested that Comey wouldn’t have sent the letter if he didn’t at least have a hint that the information was significant, the truth is he has no clue. When he wrote the letter, “he had no idea what was in the content of the emails,” an official tells Isikoff.

Yours was from a leftist magazine, published Sunday morning, obviously written Saturday night-i.e outdated, as is obvious upon reading what you pasted. Now, in answer to your question below, of course I don't think Comey has read the emails. It's all laid out in my first post. Common sense and awareness of the FBI state of discontent with the previous investigation conclusion means that ...well, you can fill in the rest....On another note, this seems to be HRC's Götterdämmerung moment....
Also, Trump up 2 in NH
No more from me on this specific topic tonight, it's tedious. She's as guilty as f*ck. Obviously.

Your understanding is Comey, the FBI & the NYPD have read Huma's emails, ahead of the letter (and the warrant)? Despite every direct report saying they have not?
And despite the fact that doing so would destroy both the case against Weiner AND Clinton?

Can anyone gleefullly predicting Hilarys demise explain to me how a Trump victory is better for NZ?
Trade wars, tarrifs, and the US deciding that anyone they are in a defence pact with needs to step up & increase their defence spending (on US weapons) if they want to be covered. That doesn't feel entirely positive for us no... And thats without a complete denial of climate change & any chance of averting an increase to extreme weather going, but that not really specific to us.
On the plus side it'll be hilarious & an uppity woman doesn't get to be Pres. Plus white men will once again be on top after their terrible struggles recently.

this only says they looked at metadata, not the emails themselves yeah? i.e. they know sender, recipient, dates etc data from the weiner investigation, but have not been allowed to look at the content of the emails, is the way i read it.

Obviously guilty. Duly charged and tried in a court of law.
Glad you're across the evidence Wairau. Given that even the FBI don't know what evidence actually is yet ...
HDS is strong.(As I'll note is TDS.)

If Weiner is cooperating and granting permission the warrant situation is more complex than been described here.
It has been reported that he is being helpful.I think its a fools game to claim to be sure what the FBI knows.. or what it does not know. The amount of official information is almost nil
