A bottle of this http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/yeastie-boys-pkb-remix-2010-us-mix/132877/ awaits my consumption with Xmas mince pies. I was waiting for xmas day but it may not make it.
Anyone else given the Stoke range a go? I've tried the lager, which was very nice indeed.
I was a bit disappointed to be honest but I'm keen to give it another go. Occasionally beer grows on you after a few trys and Stoke has a good pedigree so based on that I may have to purchase some more. -
the local RSA has Hawkes Bay Pilsner on tap, is not bad, for a pilsner.
-
I can confirm Ranfurly Draught was not a beer. $6 for 12 and you'd think there's no way you could feel ripped off. But you did.
Yeah it's still pish in a new bottle design. Glad I didn't waste my money on a whole dozen.
Magners Cider is now more readily available in NZ and I forgot how lethal it can be.
We got a bottle of this the other day. It's quite tasty and not as acidic as the local ciders. -
I got a bottle of the Epic Portomarillo, I really liked it. It took a little getting used to at first, but grew on me. It was a collaboration with Dogfishhead Brewery (from the US). A tamarilo flavoured porter.

Epic have also done another batch of Stout, which has been barrel aged. Its a very nice drop.

Was in Thorndon New World again the other day, their beer selection has grown again. Very impressive. There were a bunch of American beers I haven't seen in nz before... Samuel Adams, Rolling Rock, Brooklyn Lager and Dos Equis. There was also a load of other international and local beers too. -
I got half a dozen Stoke Gold (made by McCashin family brewery). It's actually quite nice. Has a good clean taste, and is reasonably priced.

I got a 2 quart gift pack of the DB Export Beer for Christmas. It was suprisingly good. A little extra alcohol (5.35%) and the 'original' recipe made it taste relatively OK. Certainly it's better than the insipid pish that DB Export has become these days. I reckon they should start selling it again as 'premium' beer. -
Been hearing ad's on radio for Moa Beer, but can't find it in local bottlestores or supermarkets.

Was tempted to by a Manuka beer tonight but Maka or some close name, but 4 bottles for $14.99 was a tad to much.
that's odd. I've seen Moa in quite a few supermarkets here. Even Pak'n'Save I think (it has a really shit beer selection, here at least). Have you tried Liqourland? They are usually very good.

When I was down in Wellington, I tried some Tuatara. Both the Hefe (a wheat beer) and the Ardennes (quite strong). Both were very nice. I've been meaning to get some more.

Kirwan - did you mean Stoke? -
Mata it is....made in Kawerau, they had a Feijoa beer that I tried, very perfumed, a tad dry for me, the manuka one is nice though

You'll probably find Moa beer a tad too much as well, up here they sell from about $6-7.50 per 500ml bottle, I have seen them in Auckland New World for $5.50-7.00 per bottle -

I really can't stand beers like Samuel Adams and Rolling Rock - when I was in New England my US mates loved them, I struggled to drink a bottle without throwing up. -
I shelled out $6 or something for the Rolling Rock. It wasn't worth it. It was insipid and dull. Clearly a month in America had ruined my tastebuds when it came to beer while I was over there. -

Limited outlets here Allstar, went for a look in major supermarkets and only have Super liqour and Mills. -

Thats the one TR, will splash out and give it a go. -
New release from 8 Wired - Tall Poppy Red India Ale. Very tasty food beer. A hoppy Pale Ale with a lightly roasted malt to give it some depth of flavour and richness. Imagine Monteiths Celtic Red with heaps of hops, much more body and an Alc content of 7%.

three boys Wheat - their version of a Hoegaarden type beer and very refreshing -
I got some German brewed Becks from One Day Cellar the other week. It tastes quite different than the usual Becks that is brewed here under license. The main thing that sprung to mind is the NZ one tastes sweeter. Not sure whether it's just the difference in water, or something more complicated
-
tried Kirin the other night, pretty average TBH

Also tried a Hawkes Bay Cider (in a 330ml bottle shaped like a Champagne one) whic was pretty good, and getting a taste for some of these ciders about at present!

Allstar - you find that with most of the ones imported or brewed under licence, they appear to be brewed more with the local taste or style in mind. I hated the English brewed Stella, but didnt mind the Imported version (hate the NZ version too) Grolsch is another I have found differs hugely too. -
Had a doz of Yeastie Boys 'Rapture' delivered yesterday. Order from Beerstore (or special bars) only and not in shops. Had been wanting to try it and saw they were donating sales proceeds of this on the weekend to CHCH so that made up my mind.

Nice brew, not 'in your face' but still interesting.
Rapture is the second of two beers, released in early 2011 that showcase the differences of a single ingredient. Like the Nerdherder and Monster series did with hops, these beers illuminate the difference that yeast makes in a low strength sessionable summer ale ("Rapture" emplys the fruitier notes of a Belgian abbey yeast, while "Europa" uses a clean German ale yeast).

Rapture: Pale and wheat malts, Nelson Sauvin and NZ Cascade hops, Belgian abbey yeast.
