I don't get radio reception in my garage due to the hills around me and I've been listening to Joe Rogan and Bill Burr podcasts lately while I'm down there. Anyone got any recommendations for decent podcasts ?

I haven't listened for a few years, but Mark Kermode was a fantastic listen if you like movies. Educated, entertaining and passionate. Has a PhD in horror film (no, I'm not making that up).

    also, Hello to Jason Isaacs

Beyond Yacht Rock (from the guys who did the "Yacht Rock" web series) is a really fun countdown of made-up musical genres. Can be very funny (see the "divorce-core", "sultry rock hits", and "snake charmers" episodes).

Cum Town with Nick Mullen and Stavros Halkias is a very funny, and extremely crude, comedy hour. References a lot of internet stuff though.

Bret Easton Ellis has some great guests on his show. Talks a lot about the future (and past) of film, TV, and entertainment. B.E.E. does tend to ramble a bit. Paul Schrader was interesting on it, as were Tarantino and Alex Gibney.

    Freakonomics is a must.
the bugle is probably the greatest podcast of all time but has gone downhill since the departure of John Oliver. Old episodes are great. Might be a bit too "left" for you
    Planet Money
Serial is excellent. So far they've done 2 seasons, essentially as the title suggests, each season is a single story across multiple episodes
This American life is i think the most listened podcast in the world, can be a bit tree huggy at times but they have their moments
Irriligiousophy is great if you're an atheist. Some fun bible and American founding father takedowns.

Got two of his books in the queue to read, outliers and blink I think. I don't know anything about him other than he looks like the sort of person I would find immensely irritating in the flesh.

Don't mind hearing from the left if they are able to make me understand their point of view and/or challenge my own. Have huge issue with lefties who approach life with the attitude of "this is what I think if you don't feel the same way you must be a misogynist/racist/redneck/shill/far right nutjob etc etc etc".

@jegga The bugle is very much the embryonic beginnings of Olivers "last week tonight" so if you enjoy that it's certainly worth checking out.

Agree with @Tim about Bret Easton Ellis. The Tarantino interview was great, although I notice that doesn't seem to be on itunes anymore? Alec Baldwin's 'Here's the Thing' gets some pretty good conversations.

If you like 80's & 90's movies I recommend 'How Did This Get Made?'. It's pretty fantastic.

I like Rogan's podcast but I have to be very selective. There must be well over 10 hours a week of content from him, right?

No, sounds good. I think this was the one I was listening to the other day, cover the origins of burning man , its tie in with fight club and how they are using MDMA as a way of treating PTSD.

Lance Armstrong's podcast has been really good with some interesting guests. Very honest and up front. I was never an Armstrong fan (cheating bastard) but after listening to his podcast - respect! This bloke is a winner.

Interesting hearing him talk after his massive fall from grace and as Rogan pointed out a lot of other admitted drug cheats are still in the record books while he's been removed.

Still this he's a fluffybunny though.

Well, I think Armstrong himself summed it up pretty well in Rogan's podcast. Rogan was trying to justify/explain/normalise the cheating a little, and Armstrong said that people might have been able to get over the cheating, but how he aggressively went after his whistle blowers is something they can't get over.

I've good things about this one:

    https://www.acast.com/mydadwroteaporno

"Imagine if your Dad wrote a dirty book. Most people would try to ignore it and pretend it had never happened - but not Jamie Morton. Instead, he's decided to read it to the world in this brand new comedy podcast. With the help of his friends, James Cooper and BBC Radio 1's Alice Levine, Jamie will be reading a chapter a week and discovering more about his father than he ever bargained for."
