At this stage weather looking decent in Sydney for Sunday. Cloudy and 20s. Not a huge chance of rain.

Hopefully CDG gets named in the 11

No matter how poorly they are doing in Test cricket atm, there is no question that the Aussies are clearly the world's best One Day side. If the BCs can win one game, that would be some result.

Here we go - trying to seize underdog status in the face of your overwhelming superiority...

    New Zealand ODI squad
Kane Williamson (capt), Todd Astle, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Colin de Grandhomme, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, BJ Watling

In: Todd Astle, Lockie Ferguson, Colin de Grandhomme,Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls

Out: Corey Anderson (unavailable), Doug Bracewell, Anton Devcich, Luke Ronchi, Ish Sodhi, Ross Taylor (unavailable)

I'm interested to see this Lockie Ferguson at some point. Apparently he's been clocked at ~155 kmh and is picked for the Adam Milne role. But I'm guessing our opening XI will be something like:

Latham, Guptill, Williamson, Nicholls, Munro, de Grandhomme, Watling, Santner, Southee, Henry, Boult

And yes I can't wait for this. Gonna fire up the smoker, get a Pork Shoulder slow-cooking & relax in front of the TV with a 6 pack. Bring on the summer of cricket!

We all wrote him off and then he suddenly kicked ass for a little while, due to us writing him off. More of a T20 specialist I guess but I'd like to see him given more of a go in the ODIs.

@No-Quarter his record is all sorts of ordinary

That middle order looks rubbish. Our best hope might be if Aus decide to rest their two good bowlers.

@mariner4life They might put some thought into batting BJ at 4 - seems to me he's better suited playing an accumulating role there than at 7?

Or they could have Latham keep and play Neesham.

In any case, 4,5,6 look problematic if 1,2,3 don't score plenty.

Rosco is a huge loss given his ability to navigate the middle overs. BJ seems like a very reasonable option to cover that.

FFS Aussie, it's "only New Zealand". Great chance to rest a few players you'd think...

at last inspection he was a truly horrible player of spin. good eye though, and can smash a ball.
