So, for all money, looked to be out cold, but returns to field 6 minutes later?
Surely common sense over rules any 'checks' in place, or can players 'beat' concussion tests?
And only a Yellow? WTF!

I understand why it was only a yellow. The guy bailed out, but didn't get completely out of the way.
BUT North should never have retaken the field. Doesn't matter what his history was. That was knocked out. The Fuck. Out.
They claim he didn't lose consciousness.

@NTA I guess the point is, we have seen plenty of lesser 'tackled in the air' that got reds, and that was about as bad as you will get for carelessness, not to mention the number of times they use the resultant injury (in this case, knocked out) as a gauge as to the colour of the card (which I don't agree with - if its bad, regardless of how lucky you are on landing, its bad)
No way did he not lose consciousness, unless he decided to have awe nap on their field, which is different to being knocked out.

Not the first time for Northampton 're North. Nor Wales, for that matter. I have to assume that the HIA rules are being followed to the letter, why would the doctors risk being struck off? But the HIA rules just feel like a thin veneer of subjective medical rationale to cover naked commercial expediency.
Incidentally,watching North leap for that ball I thought, not for the first time, that one possible way to reduce these incidents would be to ban jumping for the ball. Sure, less spectacle for the punters, but one way to stop players being tipped in middair is to stop them being in the air to start with? I've seen too many cards doled out to poor saps who had no possible way of avoiding the guy flying towards them at head height. e.g. Russell when Biggar clattered into him a couple of seasons ago. We don't allow jumping into a tackle, arguably little difference. Just saying.

I can see why it wasn't a red. At speed, the winger pretty much runs out of options there "shit, the ball's bounced back to him, i'll tackle, fuck he jumped". Yellow is fine. And probable suspension i would imagine.
But North is knocked the fuck out. Letting him back on the field is gross negligence, and there should be fucking sanctions.
George can't keep playing can he? How many times has he been knocked out in the last couple of years? anecdotally, i seem to remember a few?

At least three including this one. And some of them fucking carnage, for which he was also allowed back on.
I look at that 60 Minutes report on Steve Devine. His life is fucked. Fuck that. Fuck all of that.

I agree that he should never have come back on.
But (takes a deep breath) I'm not even sure that should be a penalty. He fucking jumps to catch when he doesn't need to and subsequently jumps right into the defender.

I doubt a medical professional knowing George's pudding head history would have allowed him to rejoin the field if he'd been knocked out that long.
BTW they've carded the wrong bloke. George jumped into a tackle.

I have suspicions that it is North himself that is pulling the wool over the docs eyes. He knows that it is probably career over if that is deemed a KO.
The tests are not infallible and could possibly be 'trained for' and the 'I was concerned about my neck' story pre-prepared for just this situation.
Bit of a stretch I know but it is the only explanation I have for doctors allowing him to continue playing after that. -
I know it's a bit different to a head test but I knew a guy years back that 'trained out' his colour blindness so he could get into the Fire Service. After a couple of fails he brought one of those old testing books and learned all the correct answers to each pattern.
I think a part of those cognitive tests is reaction time so you could certainly dumb down your pre-season responses.
The problem with these tests is that they won't capture everything and won't always stop someone that wants to get around them. Until we have something better though, I guess it's up to the players themselves to be honest.
I was on the sideline for a game my son played at school and saw him take a heavy head knock then get up sluggishly. I pulled him to the side and went through the protocols we had been taught for our coaching tickets ie. questions about the game, the score etc. He answered all of them and didn't look too dazed but then he said 'I don't know what happened there' and I asked the last thing he remembered which was a good few seconds before the tackle. I was probably only because it happened right in front of me that I knew and was very glad I removed him because about 5 minutes later he was seeing stars and feeling nauseous. I could have easily let him continue if he had not fessed up.
