@NTA said in Popular songs you can't stand:

Anything at all by Pink Floyd. "Yeah I'm just smoking some bad Tibetan skunk oil but I'm not quite comatose yet. Can you play something to put me to sleep?"

The Doors. Pretty much anything there, too.

Multiple likes to the 2nd part. Give yourself an uppercut for the 1st part.

I remember when the Doors were hugely popular again after the (incredibly shit) film came out. Fark I hated hearing Light my Fire every 5 minutes. So so shit.

    The Doors!!

"But man he was like so cool man. Was like on all sorts of drugs, man. Man, I'd have loved to lived back in the 60s man with all that cool music and all thos drugs, man. I mean Jim Morrison was like a poet, man."

I have had this conversation when I dared suggest I was not a fan of The Doors.

Morrison Hostel by TISM is pretty much a 7 minute diatribe with the same criticism. Easily one of their best - riveting rant.

Of the artists that regularly appear in the Top 10 Albums/songs whatever of all time I've never particularly understood the appeal of Simon and Garfunkel, the Eagles and can someone uncover how Dire Straits were popular enough to play 21 consecutive concerts at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in the 80's? They seem so decidedly middle of the road.

    Also Meatloaf.

Agree with Rancid re Nirvana , if Cobain hadn't killed himself I doubt they would still be as popular now as they are.

No correspondence will be entered into this one but a fair part of the Foo fighters back catalogue sounds pretty similar and tedious to my ears . I think a decent part of their success is due to Grohls nice guy/everyman persona .

Eurythmics were popular when i was a kid I don't know if anyone remembers the video to sisters are doing it for themselves but it deserves as much grief as that pile of crap bowie and jagger did. The song sucked too. Aretha must have been on something very strong in the 80s.

REM , shiny happy people. Really just what the fuck? Michael Stipe says fans give him shit about it to this day and he deserves every bit of it.

If you want definitive proof the Doors were shit, listen to a live album . Morrisons voice is very very average but on his studio albums they over dub them three or four times to make them sound better, same as people like Ozzy Osbourne.

Oh yeah and since its xmas that Felice Navidad song would send me into a homicidal rage if I worked in a mall.

@jegga Christmas ... The Pogues 'Fairytale of New York'

I think you're meant to like it cause they use the word "faggot". How daring ...

    Meatloaf! awful.

Janes Addiction would be my favourite band but I hate Chip Away! Probably only song of theirs that I have never listened to the end if I have control of music

I fucking can't stand Adele. The most tedius repetitive songs I've ever heard.

I hate to agree with this post but I kind of do. Foo Fighters live are fucking epic, one of the best shows I've been too, but a lot of their stuff is pretty similar and I tire of it pretty quickly listening to it in the car etc.

Anything by Dire Straits. Boring, soft middle of the road music that belongs in waiting rooms or elevators.

Foo Fighters. Bland and boring, and Dave Grohl is a massive tool.

Just because I heard it in the car.

The Foals. Liked their first song but everything since sounds exactly the same, so now I don't like their first song

Dire Straits, Aerosmith, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Coldplay ( the AB captain loses marks for going to their show ) ....

I also have the temerity to believe that Eric Clapton is about as far from God as is humanly possible.

....and as it is that time of year mentions must be made for 'Snoopys Xmas' The pogues song, Mariah Carey's song but not 'Last Xmas' by Wham. That's a great tune.

Adele is not made for me, so don't care about her at all, and never have to listen to it. Likewise Coldplay is bland soft rock, the whole thing is not really me, so pretty easy to avoid.

Yeah, it's not the exact theme of the thread but a good oppotunity to have a quick bitch about how irritating she is.

If anyone brings Tool into this conversation they are dead to me.

A bit severe, but I know what you're getting at - Eric just gets a bit boring pretty quick.

For some real heresy, and don't get me wrong - I really like a lot of Jimi Hendrix - but, the further he gets into some of his wailing distorted guitar solos, the more they just sound like noise to me.

Just to keep it local, I have a lot of time for Dave Dobbyn, hate hate hated DD Smash. That piston wristed gibbon who played drums, Rooter or whatever his name was - I refuse to google it cause I just know he's the type of drittsekk that cares about these things - irritated me no end.

That is all, as you were.
