I wouldn't want to be picking the Man of the Match award, folks. Ross Taylor came up with a special century and two outstanding slip catches. Trent Boult ran in fast, swung the ball late and kept chipping away at the wickets every time his captain threw him the ball. Who is your pick? For the record, New Zealand have moved above India to No. 3 in the ODI rankings as a result of this win.

    Who is MotM?

Nah. From memory when I typed that you only needed about 35 at a run a ball with 2 set batsmen at the crease and only 7 down. You weren't raging hot favourites, but you were ahead at that point.

24 minutes ago - so about the 38-39 over mark.

Maybe Stoinis was still in and that's why you had the brown undies on? 🙂

I don't think it's all that close really. Taylor got a good century but it wasn't extraordinary, and unfortunately got out at an inopportune time.

Boult won us the game when it was on the line.

Rosco's ton was absolutely brilliant and without it we wouldn't have anything to bowl at, but, 6/33 in an ODI is a rarity these days. Crazy figures, so it has to be Boult all day long.

Not sure how WASP still has Australia at less than 50/50...

    WASP knows it's stuff

Except at the start of the innings 🙂

Apparently that puts us third on the all-time list of most bilateral ODI series won at home - SA 1st with 17, WI 2nd with 9, NZ with 8 and counting.

Is Australia disadvantaged by the fact that a lot of their series in the past were tri-series rather than bilateral series?

    What?

We've probably won 8 bilateral home odi series in last 3 years.

Quite likely given how many they won.

120/4 now, Big Show reviews a caught behind but Snicko shows a faint edge. She's all on.

Reckon if you look closely there was a hot spot too.

So the original stat is in a row. Ok that makes more sense.

Well, that was a bloody good win. Highlighted why ODI games can be so good to wacth - the match swung all over the place.

Very very impressed with Boult. High quality pace bowling, and has found his pace again. Lockie Ferguson bowling at 152 is just remarkable. That is Bond like pace - bowling coach has to take some credit for that, despite the abuse recently directed at him.

Santner bowled 8 terrific overs, and then, um, well, yeah. 8-2-19 becomes 10-2-50odd. Just bizarre.

Great batting from the lower order Australians. Nearly got them over the line.

Still think we were 50 runs shy of a dominant total, and 20 short of a competitive total. Bowling quality won that for us.

Otherwise, Aussies show how much they miss Warner and Smith. Take them out adn the lineup looks very very vulnerable.

Other than that, great day. Bet the crowd got their moneys worth - and good to see plenty of people there.

In other opinion, isn't this the time to be running the domestic T20 or ODI on TV? Nothing to watch on Friday nights, kids back at school - this is the time to take kids to domestic games, not in the runup to Christmas.

they are at school before christmas. I agree it actually seems like cricket season now and most people take some holidays in January or Feb, and lazy weekends. I was too busy to watch the 20/20 in the lead up to christmas. They should be targeting Friday and Sat night prime-time late Jan early Feb

Yes even David White said that after Christmas is better. I think the ideal time to start the Super Smash would be on boxing day as there were crowds after Christmas but not before.

The ODI is actually on at the moment but it seems not that many are actually interested in it for there to be decent enough crowds.

Not so much about the kids being back at school; more the post-christmas insanity has stopped.

That said, we're back in a routine now, could very easily be getting down to friday night games kickiing off at sixish. Populations are back in the main centres, too.

The T20 ran from early December to very early January. December is always full of pre christmas events, tired kids, end of year madness - getting time out to get to games is damn near impossible. Kids in school until late December too.

If I had control and this was the jewel in the calendar, I'd run it starting after Christmas, finishing Waitangi weekend.

Great to win the series and entertaining matches to watch with them both being in the balance throughout.

I like Fergusons potential but think Henry has to come back in I was worried if Ferguson had to come on and bowl to Starc after Santner. Luckily Boult cleaned them up.

Henry has taken alot of wickets at good rates in NZ conditions in ODi's and as a result is ranked the 5th best ODI bowler in world rankings.

I would take that over Fergusons potential and speed.

In addition Lathams keeping was so good should he be allowed to continue in ODI's and bat down the order in that form while bringing in Worker or Brownlie to open with Guptill?

I think Neeshams days should be numbered in ODI's after those bowling displays. Couldn't even bowl 4 overs in the second, Williamson has no faith in him, stick to test cricket. Anderson maybe a chance in the future but only if he can bowl a full 10 overs or close to it. Against SA I think they should go with 5 specialist bats and 5 bowlers.

    1. Worker
    2. Guptill
    3. Williamson
    4. Taylor
    5. Broom
    6. Latham
    7. Santner
    8. Henry
    9. Sodhi/Ferguson
    10. Southee
    11. Boult

    12th Brownlie, Ferguson/Sodhi

Latham gives you your allrounder and Worker and Williamson can chip in if one of the bowlers is having a bad day. Henry is also a decent big hitting batsman.
