Movie review thread...

My niece made us watch "Edge of Seventeen" at the weekend. I relay didn't want to see a teenage angsty coming of age movie, especially one billed as the successor to th John Hughes 80s brat pack flicks. But it was genuinely funny and cleverly written. Woody Harrelson steals the show as a dry as fuck teacher. Great soundtrack too.

@taniwharugby Clint is an actor ... Bourne and Reacher are character.
Clint vs Cruise vs Damon ... thats not even a contest. That All Blacks vs Portugal vs Germany
erm, go up a few posts where you had Neeson fighting Reacher....
No ... I meant Neeson would have been a better choice to play Reacher in the movies. He would have nailed the part.
My pick for Reacher was Liev Schreiber . I thought Cruise was pretty good though.

@jegga yeah having not read the books, but heard all the angst at his casting (didnt Cruise by the movie rights to all the books?) I watched them and enjoyed them for what they were.
When you are Tom Cruise, you cast mostly midgets anyway so you dont look as short as you really are!
Saw Schreiber in the NH Museum in LOndon when I was there a few years back, solid looking unit, tall too

@taniwharugby I haven't read all the books but the ones I have there is regular references to Reacher's size compared to other characters he meets, so it becomes an important part of the story. I'm yet to see the movies, and TBH despite Cruise being a great actor his casting has put me off seeing them.
-
@taniwharugby not sure whether he bought the rights but the author is a pretty cool guy.

When I heard Tom Cruise was doing it mine was Warwick Davis.
Who's more awful here? You for posting or me for laughing?
-
@canefan he was a big shambling oaf in the book , uncomfortable with his size and always feeling out of place. I really enjoyed the book and Spacey was never going to be able to get that aspect of him across.
I'd probably feel different if the book wasn't one of my favourites .

Like TR not reading a Reacher book until after watching the first movie I've never had a problem with Cruise.
I thought the Shipping News was pretty average as a movie so have never read the book - not sure if Neeson could have made the story better though.
Ready Player One is the most recent book I've read that is going to be a movie, so it will be interesting, but I think I tend to think of books and entities as mostly separate entities these days so I don't think I'll be too bothered.

Probably a good attitude to take, it's nigh on impossible to represent a book in a couple of hours.
Big TV series like GOT are able to follow the books far more closely.

How do you judge height by checking out a rack?
Something about the square and the hypotenuse, but I might have to check.
Now where are my callipers?

I find that hands are the most precise of tools

@Crucial And there are times when we REALLY need to be precise.
Yep and I don't know of another tool that can judge weight, shape, density and size all at once.
