Finished reading a book abut Typhoon pilots a few months back, a bit slow in places it mentions one "Mac" McCaw a few times which is pretty cool.Got Alan Deere's book to read too at some stage.Halfway through Ghost soldiers which is about this, [url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabanatuan_Raid[/url] 
 
Had to order a copy of Angels of vengeance in as the only book chain in NZ prepared to carry it is Poppies [url]http://www.poppiesbooks.co.nz/newplymouth.php[/url] .Whoever decided that Whitcoulls and Paper plus should buy in the first two books in a trilogy but not the third deserves to have their entire body covered in papercuts and lemon juice squeezed into them.

[I]Ghost Soldiers[/I] is an excellent read. There was a movie made (which has shown on TV a few times) but the book is much better.

In that vein, there is an excellent trio of fiction books by Frank Barnard "Blue Man falling" ;"Band of Eagles" and "To Play the Fox" that follow a couple of charactesr through the early stages of the RAF. The second book was my favourite and is set around the defence of Malta. Good reads.

I have learned that falling asleep in bed with a kindle is much more painful than with your normal paperback... But it does wake you up enough to keep reading...

after a brief interlude with summer, when I struggled to find time to read, I finished the 3rd installment in the Conqueror Series about Genghis Khan, Bones of the Hills. 
 
Thoroughly enjoyed the read, given it is largely fact based (with some poetic licence) it is an amazing story about how he rose to greatness and how feared and respected he was, and despite all this, his own visions didnt look much further past having all his enemies fear him rather than building a lasting civilisation (when you compare the Mongols to the Romans, Egyptinas etc) 
 
Recommend it to everyone!

I was going to say what's it about, but that might be a bit of a spoiler so will just say it's yet another fantastic read so far, if a little bit different in that it jumps between quite a few people and areas!

Hey Nepia, was just moving some discussion off the movie review thread really. Thought that putting it in a discussion thread would give people more freedom to really get into it, rather than worrying about clogging up the reviews thread. 
 
I moved the "redshirts" stuff to put more interesting Trek on the new thread. 
 
If you want to discuss books on this thread, go for gold. That's what's it's for. The new thread gives people a place they can get into in-depth/comparative discussion about different aspects of genres of books/movies/tv series/etc or individual works/series. It's also a place you can drop a link or comment about trek/star wars/fantasy/whatever if you don't want to start a new thread. 
 
EDIT: If you want to start a new thread to talk about Game of Thrones or something then please feel free to do so. If you don't want to start a new thread then the nerd/pop culture thread is there for you.

Have just finished Clash of Kings, kind of an abrupt finish to a book I thought, but otherwise, equally as good as the 1st series, and cant wait to see how they put some of the new characters on screen as well. 
 
Was gonna wait until after the 2nd series on TV before I started Storm of Swords, but decided I may as well start it! 
 
Am also about 2/3 the way through Empire of Silver, love this series too!!

Just finished Metro 2033 on my non-Kindle Kindle. I've played the video game and loved it so had to read the book and loved it as well. Imagine the Odyssey meets the Moscow subway system meets a nuclear holocaust.

Now going to continue The Strain trilogy with the second book The Fall.

Just finished A Feast For Crows . A lot more bloodthirsty , still just as good as the first three books , unfortunately have to wait for our library to get in A Dance With Dragons . However long it takes to get here is sure to be too long .

Finished The Fall and now reading the final part of the Strain trilogy - The Night Eternal. The books are playing out like a Guillermo del Toro movie which is not surprising since he co-wrote it. 
 
The Fall - 7/10 - Didn't like the ending that much but to be fair it was simply just building up for The Night Eternal.
