UK journo's and ex-players and fans are now starting to call us all arrogant. Its the replacement to poaching as half of the Nth Hemp sides are made up of imports. Arua has gone on holiday so we are left with the arrogant tag now. It seems to stem from the fact that we don't like the way that the Lions play the game and they generally lose to us regularly. Ireland first win in 111 years, Eng 5 years ago, Scotland never, Wales 1953.
I have lived in the UK for 25 years now and the level of abuse (banter) I get as an AB fan as gone through the roof. To the point that I don't go to any internationals in the UK any more. The level of hypocrisy from the 4 nations fans is unbelievable, prancing around on the moral high horses has broken this camels back.

    Rant over.

Meh, not sure which articles you're referring to, but I've spent the last few weeks reading Stuff and NZ Herald opinion pieces on the Lions. Glass houses and all that...

Casual fans will often have pretty simplistic and sometimes incorrect views on most things. Just take a look at comments sections on various articles on FB and various media articles. Just let it wash over you and probably best not to pretend anyone is worse than anyone else at it.

Never heard anything different to be honest, just gotta play what's in front if you. If your being arrogant then take your medicine and decide if you want to add to it or prove them wrong.

Are we arrogant? The media certainly is - but certainly nothing that isn't seen from the other side too!

The British and Irish have a long proud rugby heritage and its often rubbished by AB fans. So I actually think that often they have a point.

@Billy-Tell But isn't it arrogant to assume that you're arrogant? Oh I don't know, this is all too difficult to conceive. I'm so used to being an arrogant Pom now that I get a bit arsey when some upstarts claim that they are arrogant. Easier to stick with the tried and tested.

Reminds me in a funny way of the quote from some faintly famous Englishman (forget who). "The only real fault we English have is that we are too modest at times".

Hmmm. We have very high expectations and every loss is like a knife to the heart. The very thought of not being best hurts like hell. I don't know if that is arrogance or just a pathological fear of being 2nd best.

That certainly seems to equate with rugby but conversely you all appear to cope with not being No1 in say cricket. I really think it is a lot to do with the place rugby has in NZ.

This touches on the point I was about to make.

We are only satisfied when the ABs win (and sometimes we even complain about that). Our pass level is very high.
A bit of the tone I am seeing in the UK is that we don't give enough credit to the BIL. That is probably true but we only give credit to our own team when they play really well. I have yet to see the BIL play really well except for a short period against a second/third string Chiefs.
Yes we are hard judges but we apply it to our own as well.

On the flip side, if the BIL were to lose a close game this weekend they would still probably get lauded in the UK for showing us that the NH style can compete.

Gotta win before we hand out the plaudits.

Could be but we don't get like that with croquet 😁

Someone else on here somewhere has mentioned a doco called (I think) Beyond the Black. Was a pretty good watch and tried to explain the place rugby has in NZ.

Ah! That makes sense now. You lot are only arrogant in relation to rugby. Thank God, this means us Poms are still the most arrogant. Glad that's cleared up. 😁
