Has anyone seen The Raid yet?
Was planning to see it this weekend (or more likely next week). Great storyline. Simple and straight to the point. -
this looks pretty good! Good cast, will watch for Ms. Beckinsale alone!!
Oh, Jessica Biel <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/man_in_love.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':man_in_love:' />

Even though Colin Farrel is the most over-rated actor in history , anything with both Kate Bekinsale and Jessica Biel just holds too much promise to ignore .

Has anyone seen The Raid yet? It got pretty good feedback on Rotten Tomatoes and I could do with seeing a good action movie.
I saw the shorts and it looks great. Apparently holding up the marketing of the Judge Dredd movie too as the plot and over look of both films are quite similar. Though as much as I wish for Dredd to be good I expect it to be complete shit. -

I'll be paying to see it. I read all the John Carter: Warlord of Mars books as a kid and used to wish someone could turn them into a movie. It took a long time for SFX to catch up to my imagination

I found them later life but loved the series. Im still mystified at the lack of marketing done for this one. It had the potential to become an epic franchise. -

The Hunger Games - The reason why films like John Carter have disappeared into the shadows.

I loved the books so was expecting to be disappointed when I watched Hunger Games the film. But overall I liked it, although it obviously had to be sped up or else it would be a 6 hour movie. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson make a perfect Katniss and Peeta but I wasn't sold on Woody Harrelson as Haymitch. The violence had to be toned down since its also for tweens (even though the book was aimed at them initially).

8.5/10
I just watched this tonight, I thought it was pretty good, I haven't read any of the books but I did have my 10 year old niece explaining every scene to me and how it compared to the book! The high speed fighting scenes, I assume to not be too violent, were quite frustrating though. Elizabeth Banks was pretty funny in it.

I guess you could say it's a tween Running Man. -
Oddly, I've heard the movie was toned down to make it more tween friendly as it is supposed to be quite brutal, despite the fact tweens read the books too??
-
Yeah TR, my niece was telling me all the gory stuff from the book and I was thinking WTF? She's read them all.

Just watched Hanna, which I thought was bloody good, it was pretty trippy in parts. There were a few plot holes that if I was in another mood may have frustrated me but I've put them down to movie wisdom. -
Contraband; Action/thriller with Mark Wahlberg (always a safe bet) and Kate Beckinsale (always worth a watch) and Giovanni Ribisi in a role he does so well...

Decent enough way to waste a bit under 2 hours. -

That's cause I wrote that a couple of posts up!
Finally saw The Raid and it is the most kick ass action film I have seen in a long time.

The plot doesn't fuck around with cops 'n' robbers in the first half of the film, all out kung fu fighting in the second. Was feeling quite knackered after watching all the fight scenes which were well performed (especially when the hero fights a bunch of machete guys).

Add Natalie Portman to the movie and you would have the greatest fucking piece of cultural work since a dude named Shakespeare thought it would be a swell idea to write about a third bloke called Dick.

The Yanks will no doubt be doing a remake of this film.

9.5/10 -
Finally got around to watching True Grit (Coen Brothers) and thought it was bloody good. The Coen Brothers are now 3 for 3 with now from their latest movies (I haven't seen one of the recent 4 though) after being about 1 for 6 earlier. Maybe I should watch a Daniel Day Lewis film now and I wont mind the over-over-over-over-over acting.

Old news .)

A few months after Sony acquired the film's North American distribution rights, it was announced by Hollywood Reporter that its subsidiary company, Screen Gems, is in negotiations to produce a Hollywood remake.[sup][22][/sup] The deal was sealed on November 2011 with Writer-director Gareth Evans will serve as an executive producer on the remake. XYZ Films - executive producers on the original Indonesian version - will be serving as producers on the English version.[sup][23][/sup] Screen Games also wants to get the same choreographers from The Raid involved with the remake.[sup][24][/sup]
How does it compare to John Carpenter's movies? The director said that he was a big influence on the film. -
I didn't notice any Carpenter influence but I've only seen Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing so probably not an expert to compare the films. -
I'm not a big Tim Burton fan, but I'm enjoying these "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" trailers...

No, but I really want to. It does look fucking awesome.

Watched 21 Jump Street - I thought it was a bit long, but I did laugh my head off in some places. -
Yeah. I have. It's fricking awesome. I really enjoyed it, but I love those Asian action movies. I liked the fact it was light on exposition and just went for it. It's definitely worth a look.
