Steamers v Otago

Awesome passage of play there, well done BOP.

Consistently inconsistent lol, I think this is what infuriates our supporters most
Don, Chase must be reading your comments, as he put in a much better effort this week.
I'm convinced we haven't turned a corner, but nice to know we're capable. Campbell helped the turn around this week, still doing his little pop passes, but at least looking before passing this week. His energy helped. Defence from all still not looking great, but at least improved
Will take any win

That was a helluva game. So much for my predictions of doom and gloom !!!
That was a good Otago team. They have beaten a couple of premier teams, almost took The Shield off Canterbury and have been close in all the games they lost....and they were playing at home !
So many players had great games. Tiatia take a bow !
Next weeks game should be a cracker !!!

Ha! Yep, that felt like an "about time" game - Tiatia looked much more interested this week & was a lot busier.
Halfback is an interesting one. At the start of the season Judd looked clearly the #1, and Campbell inexperienced, but as the season has gone on a few little mistakes have crept into Judd's game, while Campbell is getting better & better

Happy with that one. Must admit after last week and Otago's early try I was fearing the worst. Now at least a win over DSW guarantees a semi-final. Any other result and ..... permutations.
Bearing 4 of the 6 teams in the division should guarantee a spot ....

Could someone explain this ?
Here is what the TAB is paying for teams to win the Championship ...
Wellington 1.40 Otago 7.00 Manawatu 7.00 Bay Of Plenty 15.00 Northland 7.00
I can see why Wellington is clearly the favourite but I'm confused as to why The Bay is the least favourite. If you look at the games that are yet to be played and the points table, I would have thought BOP would at least be similar favouites to the others. I know I am biased and irrational when it comes to this so was wondering what the general feeling is on this forum as to who is most likely to be in the final.
Thoughts ?

Okay, I just checked and I can see their logic...they think we will lose to Waikato ...Otago will win against Southland and Manawatu will get a couple of points in their games against Taranaki and Shield Snorters.
I'm consoling myself with the knowledge that the TAB has been wrong 5 times in BOP games this year and correct 4 times

.. and that Waikato are absolute pants.

The odds are probably about right. Otago are sure to beat Southland so we really have to win to make top 4. If we do then Northland may miss out given their tough final game.
Waikato could already be relegated if Auckland beats Canterbury (big if) and if Auckland loses, Waikato will know a win will keep them up (either way it's great that one of them is coming down!).
The TAB has Waikato slight favourites but given the ability of both teams to play really well or really badly (often during the same game), it's a tough one to call. It should be a fair sized and fired up crowd on Saturday though (given decent weather) so it is one to look forward to.
-
Yes, its a simple equation ....we have to win to make the playoffs....DSW will probably have to win to avoid being relegated. That's an especially mouthwatering prospect against the old foe.
Does anyone know what happens when two teams a equal on points at the end of the competition?

@kiwipie Manawatu have naki this week and then HB on the weekend, if HB keep it tight, they could roll Manawatu.
Our lack of losing BPs (which we normally collect like a kid in a lolly shop) is gonna be our downfall...our last 10 v NH & Manawatu probably did it for us.
This year I think removing BPs would be a good idea...
-
@taniwharugby Great idea!
Wellington 9 32
Northland 9 20
BOP 9 18
Manawatu 8 16
Otago 9 12
HB 9 4
Southland 9 1We're both in the semis already!
