Sky to buy Vodafone...?
-

About to switch Sports back on for the test and Mitre 10 Cup, but thought I'd check out how much Fanpass is - $14.99 for a day, $19.99 per week or $55.99 for a month!

So 2 months worth of sports on my TV for the same price it costs for a month on Fanpass....wonder if the merger will make that price better?
-

Probably not - the fanpass doesn't require having Sky at all, so if you don't want basic Sky, the fanpass is cheaper than Sky + Sky Sport. They can't make it too much cheaper or people will start cutting the cord. -
Disagree....but anyway, hope fan pass streaming is better than SkyGo....I thought I'd try that last night to free up the main tv...jeez I just as well used one of the free streams you can find.

Will this merger fix this issue? -
Big problem with Fanpass is that it only shows events on SS1,2,3 and 4. Anything shown on a pop up channel doesn't come through. Sky tend to put many major events on pop ups now (F1, V8s, Tennis, Euro, Olympics etc)
As for Sky(not)Go, I suspect they are actually using offshore providers to provide the servers for the stream. I am also guessing that they pay by capacity. If they underestimate then it crashes for many users. For NZ rugby games the stream is probably crossing the pacific twice before you get it and they are also possibly paying for bandwidth on the cable as well. -

Allegedly, Tunnelbear is a great VPN - no logging, very simple to use, strong security, mobile options as well.

Allegedly Ironsocket is also a great VPN - no logging, strong security, still works with Netflix...

Or so I've heard...

Yeah Tunnel bear works for both the website and the (android) app.

While you only get 500mb free per month with tunnel bear, one you've logged in to Rugby Pass you can switch off the vpn straight away. So no need to pay for it as well.

So my mate says etc etc -
Do they mean night?
-
wonder what thier response will be, put prices up to balance all the customers they lost?
TBF they have my $ through to the end of M10Cup...which I only turned back on at the start of M10 cup

Sky and Vodafone are outflanking the commerce commission with Vodafone TV. Only a matter of time before we can watch the ABs online with voda or in a strategic partnership with Amazon

That is really good news for me. I still have Sky but at $113 a month (2 rooms, own my own decoders) it is really expensive. Free lightbox and netflix through other providers means there is plenty to watch. I just don't want to lose the sports coverage.
So how do you blokes (in NZ) do it?

Ditched Sky this January. Don't really miss it much. Go to mates places for big games, or watch on youtube when it's uplaoded a couple of hours afterwards. Occasionally do a dodgy livestream, but the quality is iffy ... you get what you pay for. Ran FanPass for a few months, but dropped it when the price changed.
Would seriously consider a bundle with Fibre and Vodafone when they get into our street early next year ... ubt you need unlimited data to really do video over the net
-
@nzzp Have unlimited data but our new place is rural. I seem to have good download speed up there but unlikely to ever get what city folk get (yes, I have ordered a Banjo).
I really enjoy my sports so need something equivalent to Sky, if that is possible?
-
I have Sky as I cant get Freeview via Digital, I will be turning Sports off (likely on Saturday...) as I only have it for NPC, been a long time since I got up for AB tests in the middle of the night so will likely just watch afternoon replay for EOYT.
There are other options available (apparently not illegal? just dodgy) but are often unreliable.
I barely watch any normal TV, have to convince the wife she doesn't need to watch all her trashy TV stuff and Animal programs so I can ditch it all together...I can see how that will go!

I will have that issue. Change is difficult.
So being a lazy shit, and not googling - freeview will get me TV 1,2,3 prime and a couple of others?
I can just get a decoder and I will have those channels? Can I use my existing SKY ones that I own but won't use their feed?
-
@snowy most importantly it has Parliament TV!!
Yeah think Duke, Maori, Choice, the +1 channels as well...We have a Freeview decoder on one of our TVs and I think that's what is on it.
As to the decoder you have, no idea, I guess it would work like a freeview one and just pick up the free channels for you?
-
while I can understand the reasons for this, IMO Sky are doing this for the wrong ones, and as usual the wrong way, although not sure how it would be the right way..
They have a poor platform, limited products and pushing prices up and wonder why consumers are looking for alternatives (legit or not)
-
They are overcharging big time. Relying on people like me to just let it "roll over" to next month.
I just canceled the rugby channel. All of the content is available elsewhere.
Sky are a pack of shits and make it as hard as possible to cancel- they will let you sign up to spend more cash online- try and cancel something, no fucking way. You have to call them, wait, and argue to get rid of a product that you don't want. I am doing away with a few companies that I dislike at the moment - it is quite satisfying. AMP are next.
-
holy crap, does this mean Sky has actually listened to the people for a change??
