How do we feel about a Scott Robertson/Robbie Deans (maybe add Colin Cooper) ticket for the AB's?

Scott Robertson clearly up & coming, Robbie Deans got that Barbarians team together pretty quickly. And Coops has clearly still got aspirations.

Better than Foster and ... who?

The Foster-Hammet dynasty will take AB's to places they have never been before

Hang on, we lost four nil to the Springboks back in the forties. You can't get much lower than that but no doubt Foster/Hammett will give it a good go trying to match or surpass that.

while you would hope that if Deans is the best candidate, NZR can let the bridges burnt in the past stay in the past, but I honestly think he is probably behind Gatland, who has some bridges of his own to mend.

It didn't get any worse than losing to a World XV and being thrashed by Sydney. Thanks Laurie.

Colin Cooper's appointment as chiefs coach seems to be to be another sign that the AB succession plan does not involve reintegration of an OS coach into the kiwi super setup for the foreseeable future. I guess there will be no move like that until post RWC

@taniwharugby personally I think the Gatland has zero chance. Deans & Robertson feels like a nice combo.

Its hard to fairly compare coaches - Henry & Hansen have have some all-time AB greats to work with. Gatland has some limited Welsh and has to play a style conducive to winning in the North, Deans had some rubbish Wallabies and some with big ego's.

I think look at the environments they can create as to pointers of capabilities... the AB's this year look a bit stifled, but mostly in recent past the good people make good AB's mantra is working well. Robertson seems to get the best out of his sides. Colin Cooper has Taranaki going well and got the Cane's up & running. Ireland w/ Joe Schmidt have started to believe more than ever (and the leprechaun bastards finally beat us in an exhibition match in Chicago - well played)

I just can't get my head around Foster as AB's coach.

I feel a relative outsider like Vern Cotter or Rob Penney should be on the radar.I do like the sound of Robertson/Deans or Robertson/Rennie

Cotter no thanks. Gatland no thanks. Deans no thanks.

Schmidt/Plumtree. Worked a treat for Ireland. Plumtree is a great forwards coach. Could add in Robertson as another assistant depending on how the Crusaders continue.

    As did Deans and Mitch.

Have absolutely no interest in Deans as a coach simply because he hasn't shown an ability (or appreciation) for how to coach as part of a group. He is still an old-school one man act.

It's going to be Foster unless Hansen holds on another 2 more years at which stage things get very interesting - Rennie, Schmidt, Cotter could all conceivably be back and everyone currently mooted is four years older.

I just hope Foster doesn't get it simply because he Hansen wants it to go that way. Ted wanted to hand it to Hansen, sure - but there were no other options. In 2019 there will certainly be options with better credentials than Foster in some respects. Succession and stability is important - but only to a point.

That's the dream team that @Bones nearly got: Hammett, Cheika, Philpott with Mitchell as Team Manager.
