@taniwharugby kinda.
Just a thought that occurred. It would reinforce his reputation and reassure Billy Bob that POTUS is ensuring Murcka is Great Again: bigger and badder than NK anyway.
-
@booboo totally mate.
North korean citizens won't see it without a Kim spin.
Kim and his military team know exactly that bombing the US is a suicide move (fuck the whole world knows that!) and he has channels to deliver a similarly chilling message to him privately.This sort of bragging doesn't really do much for Japan China and South Korea's efforts at keeping this nutjob under some control either.
Totally self serving

@booboo said in North Korea:
Anyone think he's tweeting to the Trumpsters at home rather than the NK populace or Kim?
All of his tweets play to his base at home, exactly the same way Obama, Hillary and Bernie tweet. That's politics for you today.

The problem is nobody is keeping this nutjob under control. He didn't have nuclear weapons, now he does. Allowing someone like that to develop nuclear capability is not what I would call "under control". The harsh reality is that something has to give.
-
@no-quarter can't control all the nutjobs in the world mate.
Nothing will stop him choosing the decimation of his own country.
I say let China "control" him. That's got better chance of stopping him flinging bombs - which is all we can do, and have done for a long time.Tweeting to a room with no north koreans in it achieves nothing in my opinjon
As unpalatable as it may be foreign intervention doesn't seem to build great nations
-
@no-quarter dunno, I think there is a fair bit of difference in the tweets from 'normal' Politicians and what Trump tweets.

Took me a couple of secs to work out which one you were talking about.

I know that's a joke but comparing Trump to the guy running one of the most oppressive regimes in human history is pretty absurd.
@Siam yeah, you can't control all the nutjobs and you shouldn't try, agree with you there. The best change always comes from within, like what we are (hopefully) seeing in Iran. But when you've got a guy running an absolutely brutal dictstorship, developing nuclear capability, and threatening to land those nukes on surrounding countries then you can't just sit back and watch. The world is a safer place if he is wiped off the face of it.
@taniwharugby yes very different but rightly or wrongly it works! His base are unbelievably loyal and he knows how to keep them onside.
Also, have you seen Bernie tweet? Armageddon is just around the corner every day apparently. He's fucking unhinged.
-
@no-quarter TBF my twitter account is mostly following rugby stuff and hot chicks, so only really see Trump stuff when someone rants against it or they make the news...so I guess I don't see a lot of those others, but I guess would they be doing the same if they were president?
Who knows, and really I'd rather see less of US politics in my life which would surely mean the better things must here in NZ and the world right, or am I being too simplistic
-
@taniwharugby NZ is the best country in the world, period. When you cast your gaze around the globe you realise, in the words of the great John Clarke, we don't know how lucky we are..
-
@no-quarter yeah I realize that (I think people need to venture out of NZ to truly appreciate it) but was more meaning the less we see/hear of the US politics, Middle East, NK will hopefully mean things are all good in the world....
-
@no-quarter yeah mate i appreciate your compassion and empathy. I've lived under too many corrupt and self servings dictatorships and administrations. I'm cynical but i call it realistic. All the leaders are primarily concerned with their power base imo
Fixing other nations is akin to wasps, gorse and canetoad introduction. Done for the right reasons but unconsidered factors just shifted a problem.

Reuters reports, b/c American media can’t & won’t.
South Korea's Moon says Trump deserves 'big' credit for North Korea talks

What absolute shite.
One google search is all you need to find the same story being promulgated by CNN, CNBC, Fox, WP, Guardian etc etc
But you carry on believing what you want.
Can this be called 'Anti-Trump Derangement Syndrome'?

Of course you dont. It might mean you say sonething good about Trump.
Stuff.co.nz has its obligatory 2 anti Trump articles for the day. And not one mention of the non partisan DACA meeting or the North Korea talks. No wonder many kiwis have no bloody idea what is happening in the US

No, it's because it's a poorly written article that doesn't back up its headline with evidence. It may make a valid point but I'll wait until more comes out.
I note you are happy not to comment on the article as well but happy to have two cracks at me, one for pointing out the stupid comment of another poster.
-
@Crucial evidence for what? That he praised Trump? I don't think the article really tried to make a point, just seemed to be reporting on what was happening.
The "talks" are pretty unlikely to be very fruitful, and Trump has indicated as much, but it's better than nothing.
