you are cruising up the double laned road at ~80km in an 80km zone, and some guy races past at 120-130km and as you come over the hill you see a cop car turn the sirens on and head off in pursuit.

People going way above the speed limit in multi-laned roads really fucks me off, as it makes changing lanes incredibly dangerous when traffic is traveling at different speeds. Same as someone going well below the speed limit.

It's a problem on the Western motorway (Auckland) coming into town at the moment - the council in their infinite wisdom has set the speed limt to 80km despite this section of motorway being brand new. So you've got people trying to stick to the speed limit, while others think fuck that I'm going 100km on this stretch of road, making changing lanes way more dangerous than it needs to be.

Or the day when the guy in front of me doing 80 in a 100km zone oblivious to the fact that he is clogging the fast lane gets pulled over. Or spontaneously combusts.....

I called *555 when someone overtook a couple of cars going downhill on double yellows on the rimutakas. Being ex police comms I was the perfect informant and it was immensely satisfying seeing them pulled over just before Brown Owl. The car was a boy racer mobile being driven by some young Indian punk. The cop rung me to say the guy disputed everything and I may have to go to court but I never heard anything further.

@no-quarter this section of road, whilst new, is a notoriously dangerous section, I noted on the bend just past where the cop started chasing him, and car travelling the opposite direction has obviously lost control and hit the 'cheesecutter' barrier in between traffic travelling opposite directions.

Some areas I do question the lowered speed limits, but not this area.

Yeah, I'm actually in favour of them lowering speed limits particularly in dangerous stretches of road. But they've got it wrong on this part and have actually made it more dangerous - I believe they are looking at increasing it though.

I was out mowing my lawns and some little shit threw a bottle at me, it missed thank fuck. I rang the cops but I didn’t get the license plate of the car, while I was on the phone the car came past again and stopped at the give way sign. Got the plate, colour of the car and description of the little shit driving.

Let me guess, one of the doors was from a different car (was red when the car is blue) the boot is tied down with a piece of rope and the music blasting out of the piece of shit car was some piss poor rap shit.

@jegga last time they were doing roadworks outside my house, one of their cones accidentally fell in my drain so they couldn't see it, so I kept it for when I am clearing weeds form the drain on the side of the road, someone puts the cone in the middle of the road (I live on a km straight piece of road that is an 80km zone) which I have found to be very effective in slowing them down.

The 80km limit through the Waterview tunnel and approaches has nothing to do with safety though. It is all about maximising the volume of through traffic.

Whatever the reason, it's not working. Driving 80km along that stretch back into the city is a nightmare as every time you go to change lane there's someone doing 100km+ next to you. They either need to actually enforce the limit, or change it.

I was driving back from work a few months back and traffic was very heavy (SH1 North from Tokoroa) and this idiot was passing on bends and just jamming himself into spaces that weren't there. (He would have passed 20 odd cars separately and 90% dangerously)

I *555 and I wasn't the only one and just after putaruru he had been pulled up by a cop and he was just leaning on this guys bonnets smiling as nearly every car passed gave a 'toot toot'

@no-quarter According to NZTA its achieving its objective. Every time I drive that section I make sure I'm in the right lane way ahead of time and just stay in it thus avoiding all the retards with their last minute jockeying as it enters the CMJ.

Plenty of fines being dished out so it seems it is being policed. Your comment about lane changing doesn't really ring true to me as you can have exactly the same issues on the 100km sections too - with the dickwads who want to do 120 because that will get them to their destination 0.73 seconds quicker.
