Christ that is sad. All Mandela's work was for nothing.
I know a heap of South Africans through my sons' rugby teams and you can see the sadness in their eyes when they talk about home. Looks like I'll be meeting a lot more of them soon.

That sentence struck me as being incredibly poignant.
Well said -
The Land Claims Bill was closed in 1998 by the ANC. It is with the meteoric rise of Julias Malema since his expulsion from the ANC, that he has reopened this issue in order to gain favour with the voters. The populist knows full well that there are simply not enough farms for everyone, but if you are destitute the offer is simply too good to pass up, as naysayers are labelled as white puppets working for white monopoly capital. He also knows that if the ANC don't incorporate this into their manifesto, the EFF will gobble up ANC voters.
The problem for me, is that there is no distinction as to when the reverse racist policies are to end. The Apartheid tragedy resonates with the voter base and therefore politicians will continue to use it as a voting tool for retaining power. (As Zuma says, Until Jesus comes) I was 6 years old when Mandela became president, it is because of the above that my wife and I believe that it would be best for our son if we were to move.
Incidentally, SA just got rid of kleptocratic Zuma earlier this month, and so the Rand is at a 3 year high. Not great for me as I had to send a wad of money back so have been stung both ways as we moved late last year.

@mariner4life The blacks (or ancestors) who passed that law never owned that land.

There is nothing more human than the desire for revenge.
Revenge on a specific individual that has done you wrong is an understanable human desire. Collective guilt is the worst kind of lazy thinking though, and nearly always leads to mass murder on a large scale. The Marxists are in charge and things are going to get an awful lot worse for everyone there before they get better, if at all.
Very very sad situation.
-
You think "the marxists" or guilt has anything to do with this?
-
Yup, absolutely. The philosophy behind the ANC is the exact same one that was behind the likes of Stalin and Mao. In this instance they hold all white people responsible for past injustices - all white people are collectively guilty for everything that happened, so we are justified in oppressing and/or killing all white people.
It's lazy thinking and based on Marxism - they want their bloody revolution. As a result we are (likely) going to see mass murder and their economy collapse, with potentially millions starving as a result. This has played out repeatedly around the world in the past century.
You could argue it was bound to happen given the history in SA - the conditions were ripe for the Marxists to take charge.
As I said, very sad situation.

@no-quarter the marxists didn't invent that tactic

"The motion was brought by Julius Malema, leader of the radical Marxist opposition party the Economic Freedom Fighters."

Yeah, I'd say that kind of thing has happened throughout human history. But it was Karl Marx that first articulated the philosophy of a bloody revolution required to achieve a socialist utopia, which has informed the political ideas of so many people since.

@rembrandt mate, that’s hard viewing.

I’m not getting led on this.

Okay, it’s the Daily Mail, but what a headline:
'We are not calling for the slaughter of white people - at least for now'

You think the Marxists dont? Read more on the issue.
