If you haven't discovered the excellent FB page NPC Rugby History (https://www.facebook.com/npcrugby/) or don't FB at all you are missing some great old clips the remind you of the difference between old school rugby and the current pro game.

I had to make this thread just to post this...

Fats, Lomu, Jim Coe, Errol Brain, a young (and thin) looking Merts for the losing side and some fine rucking.

Best wing pair in provincial rugby history.

( I mean Jonah and Joeli btw, not whoever was playing for Canterbury )

Maybe I should change the thread title to 'Let's watch Canterbury get beaten' 😉

Sky replayed all the NPC finals a few years back so I made a point of recording the 2006 final when Waikato beat Wellington. You look at the team lists and it just highlights how much the NPC has changed since then. Waikato had Messam and Leonard on the bench.

What's the best pakeha winger pairing in provincial history? Wright and Kirwan?

I hope that guy finds footage of Spencer's five try haul against Otago in a semifinal game.

If you want to see Canterbury, some prick has found footage of the last second penalty kick to achieve a 15-15 draw in the 82 shield game against Counties.

I see he left out the build up to the penalty where Robert Kuhurangi was sprinting away in the clear for a shield winning try but in the background the ref is pocketing a $50 note and blowing his whistle for a non existent offside.

Long range tries were always on with him and SJK on the field.

Here's a pretty sweet highlight reel of him.

Even in the amateur days I'm not sure how he managed to stay in one piece. He was an absolute whippet.

@mn5 one of those old leather balls when wet woulda almost outweighed him!

Shame the footage is such low quality of some of those older games.

Before there was BFA there was Terry from accounts, a real accountant!
