@sammyc You must be joking? Kearney did not sack his assistants, the Board did. The Warriors in 7th Place is fantastic considering where they were previously placed. Mate, have you ever competed in anything? That is a ridiculous statement.

My statement was ridiculous? take a look at yourself

There's some really interesting takeaways when you think about Coventry taking the Blues forwards coaching job

    • He's been coaching in the region with North Harbour and the Blues Development team so has a very strong knowledge of the current playing group

    • Blues scrum coach Ben Afeaki is also North Harbour scrum coach so has worked with Coventry

    • Akira Ioane seemingly staying for 2019. You have to wonder if knowledge that there would be a new forwards coach was a huge factor in this.

@kiwimurph you are making assumptions based on common sense, in making this appointment, do you think the board connected these dots or just pure luck 🍀

@kiwimurph Also, re Akira staying, it smells of NZR having their hand in keeping the Ioane Bro's in Auckland (IMHO of course).

@number9 Regardless, the Warriors should always be top 8, also it's silly suggest that sacking the assistants are the key reason for the improvement (so far) at the Warriors this year. The obvious improvement has come from Luke's form and Green's arrival.

@mariner4life No different to the Warriors, fans were screaming for Kearneys's head the Board kept him and replaced his assistants, this year their results have been outstanding.

It's completely different. Kearney is in his second year as coach. Umaga has already had 3 years of failure.

Oh, and 7th place on the ladder is hardly "outstanding"

True, but I'll bet any Blues fan on here would take that result for the 2019 Blues!

But I bet they wouldn't call it "outstanding" though. That would still be behind all the other NZ teams.

Now, today. Wouldn't you take it? 14th to 7th?

I’d be pissed if the Chiefs were 7th next year, even though I expected it this year.

But if I were a blues fan, I’d be all over that.

@gt12 thats not what you said, you said if you had just finished 14th and someone offered you 7th, would you take it, which anyone would...that said, you can still be pissed off with it.

I see what you're saying, and absolutely true - if the chiefs were 14th, I'd take 7th next year in a heartbeat.

I see that Toa Halafihi is back for Taranaki. Might be a good option for backup at 8 and 6. He is listed as 191cm and 102kg though, so he might not be big enough? Hurricanes website has him at 189cm and 106kg though.

I wouldn’t. Semis or above is a good season, rest is just dross.

What’s happening for the past three years of Tana is the dismantling of a franchise.

James Parsons has committed to another year for the Blues. He wants to play 100 games and be part of the change to get the club back to where it needs to be.

It is understood one of the reasons why Ioane, 23, agreed to stay at the Blues is the chance to work with Coventry, a straight-shooter who won two Super Rugby titles as Dave Rennie's assistant at the Chiefs. The former Waikato loose forward is eager to take up the challenge.

So Luatua is about to start the second of his two years with Bristol. I wonder if he will be back for the Blues in 2020?

Would make for a great loose-forward roster:

    Luatua
    Ioane
    Gibson
    Papali'i

Is that Parsons? I didn’t recognise him at all without the headgear.
