The Haka is always better when the team is in siege mentality or under pressure... which these days is about every second year while at was almost the entire 90s and early 00s once the Haka was introduced home/away.

Those mentioned are correct though we go back to amatuerism, make the chaps have jobs, only have Springbok Tours every four years, flush the World Cup for sure...

@rapido I don't get this....it's not overdone by the AB's when they do it every game, but it's overdone by the 7's side when they only perform it when they win a tournament?

Shit is it haka article time of year already ?

I was over it years ago , particularly after Dave Currie got involved in the Olympic team and he was so into it they did Hakas for successfully eating breakfast .

    Genuine menance.

Different game then. Always felt sorry for Huw, waking up to be sent off.

    Great player, cheap bastard.

Not sure Huw qualifies as a great player.

@taniwharugby Muldoon and Black Power became quite chummy. He may have been many things but Piggy was no coward and enjoyed confrontation which the gang leaders seemed to respect. He also seemed to respect them as tough buggers which given how craven his cabinet was probably endeared them to him. He set up work programmes and accommodation to assist BP

There's a story that one Black Power member flicked beer in Muldon's face. He threw his whisky back in the blokes face and fronted up to him. Instant respect.

Muldoon met the gangs regularly and took the time to understand the gangs and their culture actually did something about the problem rather than sweep it under the carpet.

@mikethesnow Don't mind the Haka as it's only for a minute or two.

It's the long winded singing of never-ending national anthems and explanations of who the soloist is, which pisses me off.

For God's sake, just have a brass band and hand out song sheets to the spectators.

I love the haka. But I do think it's a shame they have to have so much space between the two teams. The Samoa vs Tonga challenges are epic. (And I think the haka I enjoyed most was Hewitt v Cockerill)

The lowest point the haka reached was the fucking Dave Currie-led abominations on the side of the pool at some C Games. God he was a fuckstick.

No issue with the haka being performed. What I do have an issue with is the ABs deciding who is, and who isn't, worthy of respective haka. Kapa O Pango appears to be the one which holds more "prestige" these days, judging by the limited number of teams it's been rolled out against.

They should either do Ka Mate at home and Kapa O Pango away or vice versa), or just one haka permanently.
