@virgil Hmmm. That is a huge majority. But then next question is, is Botany a seat where Cookie Monster could get elected because blue? Or is it Ross himself?
edit: just checked. Botany is a new seat, only been around since 2008. Pansy Wong held it for National, then resigned. Ross won 2011 by-election and has held since then.
You going for it? Pretty sure you can count on at least 50 votes from the fern..

They will vote whoever the party wants them to put in I reckon. Even this guy

@virgil Hahaha. I've had more than enough years in government, thanks. Besides. My current job allows me to watch porn, wander about in pjs or trackies, no commute, and I don't have to talk to anyone if i don't want to. Can't really top that.

He just sounds like a complete asshole.
Yeah - and I doubt that "fact" will be lost on the people of Botany.
I'd be pretty amazed if he could win the by election as an independent, but even if he does, he'd likely get swept out at the next election. You've got to have cult status like Winston or Anderton to hold seats as an independent.

If you’re ever in need of an assistant I doubt it would take you long to fill the position...

My tuppence worth ... purely speculation based on media reports over the last week coz I'd never heard of him before ...
... Jami-lee thinks he is a master manipulator, confirmed by years of manipulating amateurs at school and uni and local government level.
Thinks he has the jump on the professional opponents he's now up against and is completely out of his depth. Just not clever enough to realise.
Is misreading his popularity in the electorate as being about him (being narcissistic and all), not realising his majority is all about National.
No loss to anyone.

Nick Smith!
Stood for the Rangiora District Council while he was still at school and got elected when he was 21.
In Parliament by age 26, where he has been ever since....thinking he knows more about everything than everyone else!

Our pm has a similar cv.
One of the things that appalls me most about labour and the Greens is that almost all of them have a “work” record similar this fuckwit the only variation being time “working “ for a union . National shouldn’t be selecting people like this too. -
@chris-b Having worked in both local and central govt, I can say it was always easy to spot the 'lifers' as opposed to those who had worked in both the public and private sector. Completely different mindset and work ethic. The lifers were the ones who would literally stop in the middle of a task because they had their cup of tea at 10.15am on the dot, and under no circumstances was it acceptable to finish task and have tea at 10.20am. Also...the unhealthy insulation from accountability gives them an incredibly bizarre sense of their own importance and knowledge compared to everyone else.

Nick Smith not the person to choose as en example! Worked in construction (family firm), trained as an Engineer and got a PhD in landslides. Probably more connected than most politicians of the realities of running a business
Education and early career
Smith was born in Rangiora in 1964, the son of John Smith. His father was born in New South Wales and came to New Zealand to start a contracting business, building drains and bridges. Smith has seven siblings; three sisters and four brothers. His father and two brothers all own independent construction crane hire businesses.[4] Smith was educated at Rangiora High School and the University of Canterbury where he achieved 1st Class Honours in Civil Engineering, was an AFS Scholar to the U.S. and eventually gained a PhD with a thesis on New Zealand landslides.[5] Before entering parliament, he worked as an engineer for the Rangiora County Council, and as director of his family construction company. He also served on the Rangiora District Council, unsuccessfully standing while still at secondary school in 1983, and successfully standing again in 1986 aged 21.[6] -

I’m not a fan of Nick Smith but I was pretty certain he wasn’t a lifelong trougher.
