Dylan was at least very influential, Lou Reed ? Yeah nah .
The velvets influenced a couple of people..
They sort of started punk didn’t they? They top the list of bands I thought were cool when I was 14 I cannot stand now.
-
They influenced some of the people who went on to make punk. Much more of a varied influence than just punk though.
Bowie was a massive fan for instance and said Lou changed the way he wrote lyrics. In any 'alt' rock genre of the last half century you'll find a lot of people who claim they were influenced by the velvets. It's so common its a cliche.. that's why I thought it was a strange angle to attack Reed on
He is divisive though.. I get that. Plenty of people can't stand him

Listening to a lot of a band i somehow completely missed in the 90s. This whole album is very good.

I always thought they were more thrash, based solely on the band name.
me too!

Definitely the best song I've ever heard about fishing......look fast for cameos by James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett on the boat.
Primus sure are a weird band but those a three absolutely wicked musos right there, none more so by Les Claypool, trying to place him in my all time top ten bass players sure is tough but he's unique and awesome that's for sure.

Mariner's favourite song of the week. Bit of a change in pace from Corrosion of Conformity below
Catchy track.
Somehow reminds me of the soundtrack to the Friday Night Lights movie (which i fucking love)
-
@mariner4life That song is very familiar. No idea how I know it though.
I was never a big fan of the movie, thought it was just ok, but conversely was a huge fan of the tv series.

Spun up some Jimmy Eat World while on the Google Musics and after going back through the two singles that were hits here in the
90searly noughties (Sweetness and The Middle) this came on. It is long, and starts out a bit weird, but by fuck that section from around 5 minutes rocks like a mofo.TIGHT harmonies and music throughout their discography, I might add. Got that balance of west coast influence pop-rock from the 90s, but they're from Arizona so bring somewhat of a different flavour.

The Middle is an absolutely top draw pop rock track.

One of the great hard rock/metal/prog epics from the 70s. Steve Wilson has done a very nice job on this remix, it’s subtle, but cleaner and punchier with more spacial separation between the instruments, and the lengthy trippy outro is awesome, the original was always a bit too dense & muddy, what he’s done here is magnificent.

Good old Hawkwind. Probably remembered more for the nude dancer with massive cans than any music they ever did.
