@mooshld just out of interest what do you think about the way they handled the latest sexual assault case ?
Because that behaviour particularly so early in their first term has clouded everything that’s come out of her mouth since for me.Especially compared to the way the left and the press here behaved after Key made a cock of himself pulling a waitresses hair.
-
@mooshld Doesn't even have to be Tinder-related. I was a bit younger than Grace when I lived overseas. One day I got off the subway to walk home for lunch before afternoon classes and some guy in a suit grabbed me and tried to drag me down an alley. I was wearing jeans and a sweater.
Acting like this shit only happens when women are drunk or underdressed or meeting a stranger in a bar is completely false. There are fuckwits everywhere who think they are entitled to things they aren't. No, I don't blame all men, or all Taiwanese people for the incident. It was one man who got a punch to the head for his efforts.

@raznomore As TR put it; sympathies and condolences, sure. But this?
“There is this overwhelming sense of hurt and shame that this has happened in our country, a place that prides itself on our hospitality, on our manaakitanga,” she said, using the Māori word for welcoming others.
“So on behalf of New Zealand, I want to apologise to Grace’s family – your daughter should have been safe here and she wasn’t, and I’m sorry for that.”
Asserting shame and an apology on behalf of the nation is gross overreach IMO.
I'll say again. Until a murder is proved what are "we" apologising for?

I'm gonna run out of upvotes at the amount of top quality posts about this.
So question for all ferners.....( except you sorry @Mokey ) but you'll get the drift.....
Since every fucken left wing feminist thinks the action of one guy means that the every NZ bloke hates women ( and there's been so many sanctimonious articles about this where the writer turns Grace Millanes plight into a story about themselves ) are we allowed to retort with the example of the bloke who died in a hit and run at the hands of a woman?
Of course not cos he was probably white and straight.....
What action? We don't know what happened.
The guy you mention is currently innocent!

@raznomore I think it is wrong the way she has said it.
Saying we are sorry this happened in NZ would have been ok, but reall,y all she needed to do was offer our sympathies and condolences, but an apology made in that way implies NZ as a country has done something wrong and this is what she is apologising for.
I have nothing to be sorry about, so why was the PM apologising on my behalf?
Word to this post TR.
With all due respect if I'm sorry for this murder I'd better be prepared for a lifetime of sitting at home being sorry for every subsequent murder that occurs between now and my death.
I'm gonna need some incredible time management skills to get quality time for every victim....
Potential murder.
Change that word to "death" and that reads better.
As far as we are aware old mate may MAY have murdered her. Chances are he did. But WE. DON'T. KNOW.

Perhaps it goes back to the free ride in the media previously referenced, but given that's now 3 countries where people live see this as going down very well, proves that what she did was correct.
As head of state, which means defacto head of tourism for the country, she's done said something which seems to have impressed / resonated across borders. Yeah, she's pissed off a bunch of blokes on the internet, but reality is that she's elected head of state (sort of ...
) and I imagine quite frequently says things that start with "on behalf of New Zealand".Reality is @booboo a young girl came here and died, and all the police intelligence which has been released indicates that this is a murder enquiry. Your point is correct that the law should be ahead of PR, but if she follows this then she will be accused of being things much worse than she is now.

A mate of mine actually knows the guy and said he's crazy. Same mates female friend went out with him in October and ended up fearing for her safety following an incident. Cops were notified at the time.
Yeah used to live down this end of the country too , apparently he was doing quite well up until a few years ago . Looks like he might have developed a mental health issue .
Drugs?

Attention overseas media, only Selina Ardern gets to exploit this tragedy for gain
Ironic.
Fair point.
But ironic given Cindy's histrionics.

@mooshld she used the word apologise, not sorry which carries a different meaning in this context.
But fair enough, agree to disagree
Yeah I see our disconnect now. She used both words in here statement. I guess I wouldn't really know what else to call saying sorry to a parent other then an apology. But I can see how people hear apologise and assume culpability. That's not the part I really focused on.

Hey I don't follow every case in NZ, this is big international news hence discussing it. I just did not understand how people interpreted the statement negatively. Thanks to a civil chat with @No-Quarter I can now see how people could take it that way. I still don't but thats okay.
I do remember the case of Key. I thought it was creepy and weird. I guess the difference there is he did actually do the act himself. Anyway like I said I am no expert on Current affairs in NZ.

I wasn't trying to imply this only happens on hookups. Was just trying to highlight how we just take for granted how much easier some things are for most of us posters on this forum.
My wife saw a guy hit on a girl, on her train, last weekend. The girls said she wasn't interested. He spat in her face as he left the train. That just doesn't happen in the other direction.

I was meaning based on what I told you .
They covered the previous two sex abuse cases completely up and similarly closed ranks when a 16 year old boy was found running naked in the early hours of the morning from Darren Hughes house which resulted in no conviction. To see them suddenly give a shit about victims of a crime looks very cynical to me after that .

Not just a few blokes on the internet, a fair few men & women based on my discussions with people. She's not particularly popular over here is the impression I get, I struggle to find many fans. Not surprising given the way the government was formed though.

Sorry I am not going to be drawn in to giving an opinion based on some of your posts about an incident I don't fully understand and a response from the PM or government I have no knowledge of. I just don't have enough to form an opinion.
-
@majorrage I expect it would have gone down exactly the same if the PM had simply offered condolences rather than apologising for me for not prowling the streets as a vigilante looking for people to protect while this Cnut took that poor girls life, instead I was at home with my kids...for that I apologize.

She could have expressed her sadness at the act and reiterated how safe NZ is on the whole for tourists and left it at that.
But making us all shamed and responsible for one man's actions is bloody ridiculous. Ditto for implying the welcome of the whole country is tarnished by this act. Millions of people come here every year and have the best time, and will continue to do so. Because it is relatively safe. But as in every country, there will always be sick fucks who do terrible things. And the rest of us sure as hell aren't responsible or at fault for that.
This. Especially because if you asked most of the population sentences are too light and there are two many dangerous people walking our streets who should be locked up. True or not, that’s what most people think.
But the government’s stated policy is that there should be fewer people in prisons and sentences are too long.
So if responsibility is going to be taken, by all means let Ardern take it. But on behalf of her government, not the entire population. Then do something about it. If this turns out to be drug induced or mental health related, maybe look at providing some support for those areas rather than giving it all to thirsty first year uni students.

Their attitude to crime is bizarre, almost repealed three strikes till Winston stepped in , want to close prisons , reduce sentences and then there’s the Czech drug dealer.
If you’re a victim of a crime and it’s a great photo op they are there for you though .
Imagine if our press was actually prepared to ask them some tough questions about this?

@raznomore Good grief. What a fucking stupid article. It's not a long list, and they were so desperate to elongate it they stretched back to 1969.
Yes, dumbasses, even safe countries have murders. And I really don't think Australia should be casting stones about tourist murders...
