50 Years of Star Trek - RIP

Took a look, it was interesting. Lots of wishful thinking and guessing from rumours.
It’s not news that Discovery could get cancelled if the ratings are poor. That’s a given for any show, especially an expensive one. So it’s a bit of a stretch to say Picard is being lined up to replace Discovery.
Picard could end up being very divisive as well, particularly if the replace the Prime canon and do a character based study type show (for example).
That said, I agreed with the criticisms about how identify politics were over used (something I’m having to suffer through with Doctor Who as well). One small beacon of hope there is Pike seems to be a more traditional character, particularly from what I gleaned from the actor interview.
TOS style uniforms look so much better than the blue jumpsuits that I hope they switch at some point too.
Don’t agree the main character is a Mary Sue. She makes too many mistakes for that to be true.
I hope we end up with several Star Trek shows that cater to different tastes. And I really hope the business interests don’t end up nerfing the old canon.

Kind of ironic that the "woke" Star Trek producers are making a series where a space nazi is the hero. At least she's not a white man though ...
Woke showrunners got fired didn’t they? (if I understood the tortuous history right)
It is an odd choice, she’d have to be an anti-hero right? Or do you think they shoe horn in a redemptive arc for the character that murdered thousands if not millions of people?

redemptive arc
That might work better if her empire had been destroyed, as happened to Nazi Germany, and she'd seen the error of her ways (maybe they'll write that in later). They'll have to do something to keep her show going for several seasons though - not sure I'm up for the Sopranos in space.

If it’s section 31, they could go a secret war path.

Star Wars doesn't have to resort to titty shots of it's characters to try and be better

Shame really because the last few films kind of sucked.
For Star Wars films.....still better than most others.

I didn't know you were a wrong-un too, you've kept it on the down-low pretty well.

I watched the new episode of “Disco” (as I’ve learned the cool kids call it).
The have lightened the tone a lot, with some good humour (some forced). The guy that plays Pike is ace, and exactly how a Star Trek captain should be.
Reference to the new uniforms, and we could see them on the Discovery next season. They look so much better.
Story was very TNG, which I liked. Didn’t like all the talk about Spock and the flashbacks.
Next week looks even more like a Star Trek self contained episode. So it looks like they have listened and smoothed off some of the sharp edges.
The production design is movie quality. Must cost a bomb. Someone on reddit pointed out they are doing some homages to TOS with the lighting, nice face in shadow with the stripe across the face lit up.
Spock’s room on the Enterprise was cool too.

Apparently they blew the budget on the first two episodes.
Action was incoherent. Episode was very slow with all the boring flashbacks. Burnham has to tell everyone off, and is still a terrible character. Vulcans are jedi now. Plot was very Marvel.
The Pike actor was good.
