@Nepia family friends had this...oddly, now that I look back, I musta been a shade too young at the time (~12) to realise that the fact they had a 12 year old daughter, a 14 yr old daughter and 16yr twins was a better reason to visit....

I went down a rabbit hole a couple of years ago to find out what the system was - because it's actually 1970s tech released in NZ in the 80s, and because of the import restrictions then it couldn't be imported as it's actual product name. Imagine if the PS4 had to be called something completely different in NZ?

It was a clone of this IIRC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VC_4000

Yeah, when there's family friends when you're young there's that cross over point from just hanging out and playing to these are girls and they're hot.

@Nepia I think it was when they moved to Perth a year or so later I cottoned onto the fact they were hot and I missed my shot (cos I had one!!)...although from what I have heard, one of the daughters went completely off the rails, prostitution, drugs etc....

    this was my first console

You may have dodged a bullet on that one then.

Oh, you had one of the fancy ones after deregulation - I didn't own another one until the PS1.

But I used to hire the Master System from the video store and go crazy once a month.

Never heard of Alex the Kid actually.

I think the Sega Saturn used to have Red Alert so I used to practice my tactics before playing my mates on computer - but that was probably mid 90s, just before the PS1 came out I guess.

Was that the blatant Mario Brothers rip-off?

Yeah - remember that... definitely a Mario Bros rip-off. But yeah, to be fair, not much imagination in the industry back in that day.

Now that this has become a distinct thread... on the topic the mod has named, not console games, but C64...

    • Commando - remember being able to "clock" that about 6 times in a single game
    • Midnight Resistance - was THE game when I was 10 or so
    • Airwolf
    • Choplifter

Then along came the Amiga, and...

    • F/A 18 Interceptor
    • Pirates
    • Syndicate

And I have no idea of anybody who ever actually paid for a legal version of any of those.

I remember the dairy around the corner from home had a spacies tabletop. I would spend hours watching the big kids playing that thing, and every one in a while I had a 20 to have a quick go myself. Those were the days
